Sonoma Valley trip, Info. Needed!
I am looking into a trip to the Sonoma Valley in November. Any and all recommendations needed for itinerary and where to stay. B&B versus Hotels and what part of the Valley does one recommend? I am planning a 4 night, 5 day trip arriving on a Thursday. I haven't decided what weekend to go, but I saw that there is an event planned for the first weekend in November and there is always specials the second weekend of each month. Any information will help. I saw a wealth of information on different vineyards to visit, my question is where to stay that will allow the maximum exposure of all there is to see. Thank you in advance for all your responses.

Just got back from Healdsburg and loved it. I highly recommend the B & B Villa Messina. They're undergoing some renovations, however, it didn't interfere with my stay (no loud noises). They guys there are very nice and have lots of recommendations for your time in the area. As a matter of fact, they even escorted me and some of the other guest out in a limo! Look them up if you've not already found a place! Oh, least I forget, the bed was soooo comfy!

Here's a little hint. When you get out to Sonoma Valley, have a good map in hand. Seek out some small quiet wineries. Talk to the person serving and explain what kind of wine you like and which type of places interest you. Also, ask the proprietor of your B&B for suggestions. With that many days, you will have ample time to see a lot of the Valley. Try focusing each day in one area.

If this is your first trip to Sonoma Valley, you may want to stay close to Sonoma Square. It is centrally located and there are nice places to walk to for breakfast, lunch and dinner.
Try www.sonomavalley.com for some suggestions.
Have a great time!

Just got back from Sonoma/SF. Stayed at Calderwood Inn in Healdsburg and would recommend it. Friendly staff, nice room, pretty good breakfast, wine/cheese at sunset. Walking distance from lovely town with so many dining choices you won't know what to do. Staff helpful in getting winery tour reservations/info; we loved Rafinelli.

This one's in calistoga in napa valley, but isn't too far from sonoma, and with your long stay there will be plenty of time to explore both valleys. splendid bed and breakfast called chateau de vie www.chateaudv.com . well known as just about the finest breakfast available. beautiful grounds, pool, views. excellent cheese and wine in the afternoon and the inn-keepers are great resources. 8 of us stayed there last year and last month, and we're surely coming back next year, good luck, H

There is a little confusion here. OP is talking about "Sonoma Valley". Healdsburg is in Sonoma County, all right, but not Sonoma Valley.
In Sonoma (town) I like El Pueblo Inn. It is less than a mile from the Plaza, has recently been expanded and re-done, is reasonable, has gardens and a pool and do-it-yourself waffles from breakfast.
There are also quite a few b & b's and two historic hotels on the Plaza.
The Plaza in Sonoma is 11 acres, surrounded by adobe buildings from the Mexican period, now hotels and shops. The last Franciscan mission built in California is here.
The valley is 18 miles long, with enough wineries to keep you busy.

The town of Healdsburg is about 1.5 hrs north of the Golden Gate bridge...straight up Hwy. 101 in Sonoma county. If you veer off #101 to the town of Sonoma, its in the SE part of Sonoma County. The drive from the town of Sonoma to Healdsburg is about an hour +/-. You would go through Santa Rosa, which is the "county seat". Lots to see in this county. Its all very pretty now with the leaves turning colors in all the vineyards.
