Sightseeing around Manchester NH?

We are visiting our daughter at school in Manchester, New Hampshire next Sat. We have about 6 hours to see some sights. Thinking scenic or historical. Any ideas? thank you!

Right in Manchester there is not too much to see. The city of Manchester has some cute restaurants. If you want to take a drive you could go up to the coast in Portsmouth - (i'm not too sure how long the drive is) But that is a nice area. The foliage is beautiful right now. I know you wouldn't have enough time with this trip - but I highly reccomend going up north to Conway, around the White Mountains. Nice town and beautiful scenery. Do you mind if I ask what college? I went to school in Manchester as well...St. Anselm College. Good luck.

Actually she's a law student at Franklin Pierce in Concord, but she lives in Goffstown very close to your alma mater.
My husband and I are flying into Boston and sightseeing for a few days and then busing to Manchester. We visited Portsmouth this summer when we moved her there. Very cool- maybe we'll go back. Thanks very much for your input!

It's fall foliage time! Drive up to Alton Bay and around the Lakes Region. If you're in great shape, take the 3 hour (round trip) hike up Mt. Major - magnificent views of Lake Winnepesaukee.

Warner, NW of Concord off Rt 89, is having their Foliage Festival. It's a pretty town and it will be crowded but they have parking areas with shuttle buses. Go up Kearsarge St to the Kearsarge Indian Museum and then continue further for a short, easy hike to the top of Mount Kearsarge.
Canterbury Shaker Village is still open. That is also a beautiful area and the tour is fascinating. Traffic may be heavy on Rt 93 so you could opt to drive up 3A which goes along the west side of the Merrimack River. Check the Union Leader or Concord Monitor for any other events. Both have websites. I expect Rt 89 traffic to be heavy as well.

There's a Frank Lloyd Wright-designed house in Manchester that's open to the public, and it's a very interesting place. It's known as the Zimmerman House (Wright designed the house on commission from the Zimmermans in the 50s), and it's available through guided tours (only). For information, contact the Currier Gallery in Manchester.

When you arrive, phone the NH Fall Foliage Hotline for the most colorful routes and drive them. (800) 258-3608

You might consider Peterborough NH which is not too far away. Charming little town and beautiful scenery. Or Exeter in the other direction.
