Sheraton or Hotel W-Honolulu??

Will have a 24 hour layover in Honolulu and need to redeem Starwood points for a "free" night. There are several Sheratons in Honolulu as well as a Hotel W. Need to chose one....balcony is a must and oceanview and complimentary airport shuttle wouldn't hurt either. I've never been to Honolulu so have no clue where to spend 24 hours. Which Sheraton or Hotel W? Thanks!

Am familiar with 3 Sheratons in prime locations on Waikiki. Best OV-Sheraton Waikiki. Most Hawaiian: Sheraton Moana Surfrider. Best buy: Sheraton Princess Kaiulani. I would stay at any of these. The W Hotel is up by diamond head--more quiet/seclusion, yet unique. Do not think any hotels in Waikiki provide transportation but it is easy to catch a bus or taxi at the airport.

Aloha Tom,

I like the Sheraton Waikiki because of it's location and nice ocean view rooms. It's a large hotel with about 1700 rooms, whereas the "W" has about 40 rooms, and located further down on Kalakaua Ave. The Sheraton Waikiki is located more in the "heart" of Waikiki and there's more action. If you're looking for a quiet place, go for the "W". For excitment, go for the Sheraton Waikiki. Have a great time!

Your best bet will be the royal hawain unless they let you have a gaurentee on ocean view at the moana. City side is very noisy. This is not an issue at the royal hawain since it is set away from the street. No question where I would stay on points.

If you did go with the Royal Hawaiian (which I would not), just to let you know the new(est) section is the only part that has lanais with a view and they were painting it last week. I was glad I wasn't trying to enjoy a view with painters scaffolding there. I would just ask, maybe they will be done by then. It took our transportation only 17 minutes to get to the airport (nextstore from the Outrigger Waikiki)!

Thanks for the suggestions. I got lucky and was able to secure an oceanfront upgrade room at the Moana Surfrider. I was surprised they confirmed it prior to my arrival (usually it is all subject to availability at check in). Sounds like a great room and location in the tower. Thanks again. Tom
