Santa Fe over New Years

We just made plans for a trip to Santa Fe after Christmas and over New Year's Day. While we're regulars to Santa Fe, I am not familiar with holiday activities going on the week of Christmas up to New Year's Day. I called the Indian Pueblo number for dances and informed me to call each pueblo for their schedule. Also, I see there is a Gala NYE performance at Lensic Theatre.

I am interested to know what is going on in Santa Fe -- are there any candlelight walks like Christmas Eve up Canyon Road or something similar?

New Year's Eve dinner is slim pickins, as you may imagine. On a long wait list at Geronimo but wondering what El Farol would be like on New Year's Eve for a casual fun NYE?

Any last minute suggestions appreciated.

Thanks,
Sheila

Sheila -- You can see the beautiful farolitos around town at the Plaza, Cross of the Martyrs and Canyon Road.

Dec 24 is the walk on Canyon Road where carolers and decorations galore can be seen and heard. You can experience open houses in many of the galleries where hot cider and treats are available too.

At the pueblos Dec. 24 – 29 there is the great opportunity to see traditional Christmas Indian dances.

A beautiful musical experience is the Baroque Christmas performed by Pro Musica at Loretto Chapel. Santa Fe Pro Musica Baroque Ensemble: A Baroque Christmas - A French Noel featuring music by Rameau, Rebel, Boismortier and traditional carols, December 20 through December 24, 6pm & 8pm at Loretto Chapel.

This has some good ideas too:

Thanks, Debi. I wish we could be there for Christmas Eve but we're going right after Christmas. Was hoping there was something nice to do while we're there such as a beautiful walk up Canyon Road after Christmas.

Thanks for the websites.

Any other ideas??????

Pueblos near Santa Fe: Jemez has Buffalo, Eagle or game animal dances on Christmas and the following days.

On 12/26 there will be a Turtle Dance at San Juan and at Santa Clara and Picuris Pueblos there will be Holy Innocents and children's dances on 12/28. New Year's day is also a time of dancing and the Transfer of the Canes ceremony celebrating the tribes' new leaders coming to power.

Saturday - 12/30 If you have never visited the Shidoni Brass Foundry, today's the day to go: 1pm Public Brass Pour. Have lunch at Tesuque Market first. www.shidoni.com

There's lot more going on; check out the calendar here for info --

Hope this helps...
