Sanibel Vacation Activies

My wife and I are going to Sanibel next week. Any suggestions for what we should do while in Sanibel? So far we don't have any concrete plans, but we do plan to visit the Everglades one of those days. We'd love to go kayaking and bicycling.

Any suggestions for the best place to rent a bike, a kayak, etc.?

Since we are going to be there through the weekend, are there any activities we should do during the weekdays and not on the weekend (i.e. will it be crowded on the weekend)?

Thanks!

Have you ever been? Ding Darling will have great kayaking, there are bike shops galore, bikes are the rule, all traffic yields to the bikes. This time of year it should not be crowded, just keep in mind that the restaurants do get busy at meal times. The traffic picks up at 5pm too. To me it is the greatest place in Florida.

The beach parking is more difficult on the weekends so ride out to Captiva during the week and save the closer beach for the weekend(you could Bike there) some of the properties have free bikes, ask at check-in... also if you plan on visiting the off island beaches in Ft Myers, Bonita, and Naples, do that on a weekday... have fun!

Bring your binoculars. The birding is fabulous. Go to Tarpon Bay Excursions and rent kayaks or take a guided trip.

Understand that going to Sanibel and even more to Captiva means a quiet life. It is not the place to go if you need lots of activities. What there is is what people tell you about above: walking, shelling, biking, kayaking, fishing, looking at birds and alligators. There are not to my knowledge, now several years out of date, fabulous restaurants that will impress the folks back home. It is a place to chill.
