Here are a list of some of my favorite restaurants in these areas.
La Jolla :
Trattoria Aqua - (italian) call ahead to book an oceanview table
George's Terrace - located over George's at the Cove. Excellent views and good food. Much less pricy than downstairs.
Del Mar:
Pacifica Del Mar. Great location overlooking the ocean. Excellent seafood. Must have the creme brulee.
Downtown:
Blue Pointe Coastal Cuisine - Fun atmosphere, great seafood.
Dakota Grill - Really good food with a southwestern flair.
Bella Luna - Little Italian restaurant
Sally's at the Hyatt Regency for lunch. Get a table along the boardwalk for great people-watching.
Don't go to Coronado enough to recommend anyplace.
You may want to consider Old Town for great mexican food and margaritas.
Favorites are Casa de Bandini and Casa de Pico.
There was a whole thread recently on Zoo vs. Wild Animal Park. I love both. If you have a great zoo where you live, the Wild Animal Park is unique. Hua Mai the baby Panda bear will be leaving San Diego at the end of the summer, so if you're interested in seeingher, go to the zoo.
Whatever you decide, you'll have fun.

My husband and I just got back from San Diego. We stayed at the Town and Country which is pretty central to everything we wanted to see. I would recommend the Trolley Tour which was well worth the price. Sea World was great--better in out opinion from the one in Florida. We also really enjoyed the restaurant Sadaf which is in Downtown San Diego at 828 Fifth Ave. It was one of the best Persian restaurants we have found in the country! Terrific service, great prices and plentiful food make this an enjoyable evening.

We just went to zoo for the first time this spring and were very impressed partly because of the gardens. There's so much growth that enclosures aren't on top of each other. That means a lot of walking but we enjoy that. It turned out to be even better than we expected.
