Hope to make it up to Portland sometime this summer - any restaurant tips for new places? I just saw a recommendation for Screen Door at 2337 East Burnside. Your thoughts on this place would be appreciated.

Nanabee - people LOVE Screen Door. I haven't been (I'm gluten-free, there just isn't much of a point as it's heavy on batter-fried things and biscuits) but I've heard lots of rave reviews.
Post which restaurants you've been to so we don't list the same ones. Though Toro Bravo is worth a return visit always.
Have you been to Le Pigeon? I haven't but I know it's going to be great. It was mentioned again in July's Sunset magazine.

Elmer's is a chain - there are so many GREAT places to eat in Portland, OR that are privately owned. My husband & I go to Portland once a year for a long weekend of dining, shopping and siteseeing.

Shar staying with family in SE, but have a car and public transport is so awesome in PDX.

Spirobulldog, I love Toro Brovo and can't wait to try Voodoo Doughnuts. I've heard so much about them and they were highlighted on a Food TV show recently.

PDX, Thx for the web site. I love Le Pigeon and didn't know it had a mention in Sunset.

halfpair, St. Honore is my favorite. Will also check out Veritable Quandry and La Cena which I've not heard of.

Wanted to bring this up again. Ox on M.L.King was recognized and give a James Beard Award. Has anyone been there and what's your recommendation? Is this a fairly new restaurant?

It has been open for about a year, so no it is not new. I haven't been there, but have heard good things. It is heavy on the meat, if that matters to you.

thanks mms. i don't mind meat - i eat it rarely but do enjoy it especially if it's a really good restaurant.

We tried to go and it was a 2.5 hour wait. That was long even compared to Toro Bravo (1-1.5 hrs) that night. Just to warn you. Ambiance was cool from what I saw.

Yikes! If they do lunch maybe we will do that instead or a very early dinner.

Go early, go on a weekday. You give the waitress your number and they call you while you wait at the bar. We didn't have that luxury of waiting that particular night as we had somewhere to be later. We ended up calling and getting a random last table at Paley's Place; steelhead was amazing.

We don't go out often so you may make it there before us. Post back....

5alive, I went to Paley's Place years ago - was very impressed.

htt: When my DD lived in NE I went to the Tin Shed often with my little granddaughter in tow, we loved it.
