Relocating to Kalispell, Montana. Any advice?

Hi, My husband and I and our 11 yr old daughter are considering relocation to Kalispell, Montana. We are now living in western Pa. We are a very active outdoors family(hunting, hiking, camping, skiing) and would like some feedback on elementary/middle schools, cost of living, housing costs. Is there alot of growth in the area? Thanks for any info!!

I have been to Kalispell, and family I know moved out there for a while.
The problem they found was employment.
No one had a job when they went, and finding one that paid a living wage was a problem even though the wife was a very skilled administrative secretary.
(The husband was/is another story.)

I live in Whitefish which is 15 miles north of Kalispell at the foot of The Big Mountain. I work in the school district here and think we have the best system in the valley.

Thanks for the info. My husband was interested in a company named Semitool located in Kalispell. He is a Tool and Die Maker. Any information about it, good or bad?? Do people have very many problems with bears, black/grizzlies in the outskirts of town? We are just trying to get a feel for the area, lifesyle, and costs to live there. Thanks again!!

For scenery and outdoor recreation, you can't do much better than Kalispell. There is plenty of each nearby.
I was born and raised in another Western Montana town, and am now something of an economic refugee. A living wage is difficult to find in Montana these days. If your husband can get on at Semitool, that may be less of a problem. In fact, you'd be living the dream.

I grew up in Bigfork, Mt. which is about 20 min. from Kalispell and is very touristy and exp. Kalispell is a small city and much more laid back. Kalispell is close to Whitefish and great skiing and also to Glacier National Park and Waterton Parks for hiking etc. Lots of hunting and fishing throughout the area and montanan's love these types of activities. I think you would love Montana after Pa. It is a beautiful state. I now live in Alberta which is also beautiful and and easy drive. Good luck.
