Raleigh, NC Restaurant for Lunch

Looking for suggestions for restaurants for lunch in Raleigh, NC. Will be staying near Crabtree Mall. Will be visiting downtown too. Thanks.

I think your first posting has generated a couple of responses, but here is my suggestion Irregardless Cafe

901 W Morgan St
Raleigh, NC 27603
Phone: (919) 833-8898
Good fresh food, has vegetarian options, funky little place that's been around for years.

I would strongly recommend Bogart's American Grill. It's a very classy restaurant, and they have great lunch specials for as low as $6. You won't regret it! Hayes Barton Cafe is also another great choice.

If you are downtown, check on EST EST EST. The website says they are open for lunch http://www.estest.com/index.html. Also downtown, Cafe Luna also says it is open for lunch http://www.ohwy.com/nc/c/cafeeigh.htm. Right down the street from Cafe Luna is Duck and Dumpling. http://www.downtownraleigh.com/play/...bers/6_38.html. At Glenwood South, near downtown, 518 West is good. http://www.downtownraleigh.com/play/...mbers/6_9.html. Other but look at this web site. http://www.downtownraleigh.com/play/dine/index.html
Also near there (1/4 mile) is Bogarts,

I second the Bogart's suggestion (it's in Glenwood South- a straight shot into town from Crabtree)and also like 518 West (Italian).
I like the Irregardless for Sunday Brunch more than I do for other meals.
I also like the Glenwood Grill for a business lunch- it's Mid-Glenwood, about halfway in between Crabtree and the Glenwood South District.
Downtown, don't miss Cafe Luna- one of my favorite places. It's full of power brokers at lunch and lovers at night. Great art, too. It's on Moore Square (Raleigh's Downtown Arts and Entertainment District).
The warehouse district in downtown is home to my favorite new place called Nana's Chop House. I'm sure some foodies could get this story straight, but I think it's Scott Howell's (from Durham's nationally acclaimed "Nana's" restaurant) rendition of new american cuisine in Raleigh. We just had dinner there last weekend and the squash soup with truffle oil was just to die for.
Finally, I always take out of towners to 42nd Street Oyster Bar (one of the original places on Glenwood South) just because it screams "old Raleigh." Good food, great service, and fabulous people watching- especially for the over 40 crowd.
Have fun!

I would agree with the suggestions for Duck and Dumpling (one of our favorites), Cafe Luna( very good Italian), Irregardless (fresh and eclectic menu and awesome bread) and Nana's (amazing variety and delicious).

We have found Bogart's as of last week to have gone vastly downhill and have never been impressed with 42nd St. (it has been there forever, and my husband has to take clients there frequently, and has never had more than a decent-if-overpriced meal).

If it is going to be a weekend, check to be sure what is open as I know most of those places (all downtown) are not open for lunch on the weekend.

As I mentioned previously, I love Cafe Luna, and Big Ed's (Southern food) on the City Market, both downtown.

Near your hotel, even if it's just for a milkshake or an apple turnover, make sure you get to Char-grill off Edwards Mill Road. Your hotel will be able to give you directions. Char-grill burgers are wonderful - the best!

There have been a few negative comments about Bogarts on this forum.

Try 518 West at 518 W. Jones St. (more downtown) or if it's now open for lunch, Nana's Chophouse at 328 West Davie (newest location for 4-star Nana's in Durham).

More comments......Nana's is a good choice for dinner but they dont appear to be open for lunch. I have taken clients to 42st and they were not impressed. It was very dissapointing. I wanted somewhere with local fare and the atmosphere was good but the food was nothing special. I guess if you are downtown and want a peck of oysters, it is OK. Of course, if you want the best hot dog in the southeast (or world), go to Snoopy's on the corner of Glenwood and Hillsbourgh at the top of Gleenwood South.
