Questions, NYC

Any help with the following questions would be greatly appreciated:

1. Does anybody have a current (newer than 6/1) list of shows available at TKTS?

2. Is Rent appropriate for a 16 year old, fairly mature, young lady?

3. How is the current cast of Phantom and Jekyll & Hyde?

4. Any recommendations for Off-Broadway plays?

5. Shopping will be a major part of this trip, where is the best discount clothes for a teenager and a young 40 something?

6. Has anybody used Tel Aviv Limo Service from LGA? Is it worth the extra cost, did you save time?

7. Where is the McDonalds with the doorman? (I read the early tread and know everyone's opinion but would like to see it)

1. The TKTS list of show changes daily.
2. If "Rent" had been playing when my daugther was 16, I would have taken her to see. However, not everyone on this forum agrees with that attitude.
3. I wouldn't bother seeing "Jekyll & Hyde" no matter who was in it! The cast of "Phantom" is probably okay.
4. Two outstanding off-Broadway shows are "Dinner with Friends" and "Fully Committed," but I'm not sure you daugther would enjoy either. "Blue Man Group" is the "in" show to take kids to!

In no particular order...

1) There is no set list of shows that are always available at TKTS but when I was there late on Friday June 30 (15 minutes before showtime) there were tickets available for every major show I can think of except Lion King and Rent. That's not always the case - it depends on what tickets remain unsold on a particular day. It was a hot night and the throngs that were coming in for the July 4th festivities perhaps hadn't arrived yet but Times Square was as crowded as I've ever seen it (excepting the occasions when a concert or special event is being held).

2) My daughter was mature at age 14 when I took her her to see Rent and I can comfortably recommend it for an open minded parent who has a good and communicative relationship with their intelligent teen. Contrary to the misimpression lent by a few naysayers in this forum previously, it does not glorify or romanticize the issues regarding drug use and sex that are a part of the story. Rather, it shows the consequences of said behavior while illustrating the goodness and humanity present in all of us under difficult circumstances (and the music rocks for a Broadway show).

3) Haven't a clue where the McDonald's with doorman is but I spotted a Burger King in midtown that is has ten Internet terminals for rent... only in NY! (for now...)

4) Check out this link for "De La Guarda" - a show that sounds intriguing and decidely different - I haven't been yet but intend to see it within the next few weeks - will report back here when I do.

5) I defer to Howard on everything else... as usual!

By the way... I've been living in the NYC for 6 months now but had a friend visiting for July 4 weekend and got to "play tourist" for three days - will post a report in a few days.

Tel Aviv car service did not show up to take us back to the airport, despite repeated frantic calls and assurances that the driver was "a block away". Said they would make it up to us on our next trip. They didn't.

The next time we used Carmel. They worked out just fine.

The best TKTS is in the World Trade Center, there is rarely the line like the 47th St. location. That location also opens in the morning, so you can get your tickets early and go play for the day.

Shopping is right across the Street from the WTC at Century 21 which is a wonderful discount store with lots of goodies, your daughter will love it.

Some of my favs to shop at are
Labels for Less (lots of locations)
Conway (for your daughter, inexpensive
casual cloths and accessorites)
(34th St near Macy's)
Loehman's (17th and 7th Ave)
Daffys (4 locations)
Ann Taylor Loft (42nd and Lex)
Forman's (on 5th Ave near 47th and 42nd
and 3rd)
Strawberry's (all over town)

The McDonald's with the door man is in the Wall St. area, (Broadway across from the Merrill Lynch building)

Hope this helps some and if you have any more quesitons, let me know.

There's also an Ann Taylor loft in my building, 171 E. 84th Street, corner of Third Avenue. New.
