Porltand, OR Flight Help Pls.

Been watching fares for Halifax, NS to Portland, OR as I'm not familiar with rates on this route. This week the fares went from $605 to $750! Any idea why the big spike? Any guesses on whether I should hold out or book now?

Travel dates Nov 26 to Dec 1. Thx a mint for any insights.

Enjoy-la!

I think it may be supply and demand. The holiday season is peak travel time, and you're speaking of the Sunday of American Thanksgiving weekend to the Friday afterward. Although the day prior to American Thanksgiving through the Sunday after it have always been regarded as the heaviest travel dates in the US, dates surrounding them are heavy, too, as many folks take additional vacation time to visit with families, and perhaps even do an early Christmas celebration with loved ones they might not otherwise see.

Good Travels to you,
BC

Thx for your reply BC. I will see if the flight out is causing the increase. If so, I have flexibility and will see if changing fares for Saturday travel out helps.

Enjoy-la!

BC, you're right on. The diff btwn leaving on Saturday and Sunday is $157!!

I guess Sunday being a travel day with people leaving after the long w/end. Even if I book a hotel room for an extra night ($50 PL), I'd still be ahead $100!! Thx a mint for your insight.

Enjoy-la!!

Did you try booking on Thursday, the American Thanksgiving day? It might be even cheaper because virtually no one travels on that day.
