Pearl River Closing

http://gothamist.com/2015/04/07/rip_...rt.php#photo-1

One of NYC unique stores, Pearl River, is closing due to insane rent hike. The rent will go from $100,000 a month to $500,000.

You think maybe that rent was raised that high for a very specific (perhaps illegal) reason...and it worked?

No, the neighborhood where Pearl River is located has changed dramatically over the last 30 and the landlord is getting what he thinks the market will bear.

Yes, Sue, there is a movement now to save the Mom and Pop shops in Manhattan. Ess-a-bagel, on 1st and 21st closed this week and is looking for a new location. It is a very difficult issue to legislate.

Any one who wants to support local business, there is a restaurant crawl this Saturday at noon for the stores on 2nd Ave that survived the explosion.

It's a damn shame and it's happening all over the city.

Re the restaurant crawl -- stop in at Might Quinn for some good barbecue. Try the brisket.

Fra-I agree and cannot go because of other commitments, but Mighty Quinn is sensational, I particularly like the baked beans,

I hate to hear about these closings due to excessive rent increases. It's happening in West Chelsea too, sad.
