Passport: Should I get one for Canada?
We'll be entering Canada this summer near Glacier National Park. I know that you don't need a passport, but in this day and age, do you think we should get one. Will it be easier? We are U.S. citizens. Thanks.

I would. It is valid for 10 yrs and its so much easier to use for I.D., its the ultimate proof of citizenship as you know. I paid $60 for mine and you can get a photo while applying for your Passport.

$60 for a passport??????? I thought they were more expensive than that.
The need for a passport to re-enter the US from Canada doesn't go into effect until December 12007 but I would get one anyway.

We just got passports last month. I believe the total charge per passport was $103. I wrote checks for $67 ($50 for the passport itself, $12 security fee) to the State Dept for each passport and there was a separate $30 execution fee for each.

I know I said that was my last post! But one more thing...We found out that both Walgreens and CVS do passport photos for $7.99. The post office where we applied would've done them for $15. But, with four of us, it was worth going to Walgreens. It was only a couple of blocks from the p.o. anyway.

My husband and I have our passports, and we applied at our drivers license bureau and they took the picture so we did not have to go anywhere else. We needed a copy of our birth certificate which they mailed in with the application, and it was returned to us along with the passports. We will be driving in Canada and will have our passports with, going to Alaska.

Just sent our PPs off to SF for China visas. Noticed also that we both have only two "blank" visa pages left, 'tho they don't expire 'til 2011.
You can get a "double load" of those pages at issue/renewal for no additional fee if you travel frequently.

Get a passport - you never know when you're going to have to flee the country. 
Really though, a whole new world is opened to you - literally - once you get it. You may hear of a great deal on a flight to London and you'll be able to do it. Just seeing those blank pages is enough to get you dreaming of the possibilities.
