Park City Condo
Hope that a local can advise on condo choice for New Years ski trip. I am wondering about location between 1)corner of Deer Valley Loop and Deer Valley Drive 2) Parkview condo at 2242 Jupiter Drive. Both are on shuttle route, but since I am not familiar with the area, I would welcome input! We will ski Park City and Deer Valley, and will have a car. Thanks!!

Becky - The Deer Valley condo location would be great especially if you plan on skiing mostly Deer Valley. The only Jupiter Drive I could find was in Salt Lake City and would be quite a drive every day to get to the resort. But maybe it is newer and not on the maps yet. We just got dumped on with snow and the skiing should be great for New Years. Have a great time.

I assume that you are familiar with this site: http://www.parkcitytravel.com/parkcity/condos/park_view.htm
that has pictures of many condos, including the Parkview condo you mentioned.
As to whether to stay near Deer Valley or Park City, I think that's a personal choice. We prefer to stay in or near Park City because we like to be within walking distance of the bars/restaurants. For that reason, we have stayed at the Park Station (at the bottom of Main Street) before. That being said, the shuttle (to both resorts and to the town) is VERY convenient -- it runs frequently and reliably.
Do you plan to ski one resort more than the other? We like Deer Valley because it is less crowded and prohibits snowboarders. Others like Park City better. We usually ski both equally since both have a good number of groomed blue trails (the best for our group of mixed-ability skiiers).
HTH!

Yes, I have looked at the photos online--very helpful since the condos can vary greatly. It looks like to me that the Parkview is a nicer unit, and has private vs. shared hot tub, but do you think the location is good? What else is around that area? The other condo is walking distance to downtown. Both would require shuttle to ski areas. We have 3 days to ski--one at Park City, one at Deer Valley, then back to whichever is the favorite!

I'm no native, but I think the Deer Valley condo is going to be on the road that takes you into Deer Valley ski area. That is a fine area, close to the resort, but there is nothing else nearby. You wouldn't be able to walk to anything. On the other hand, it would have a nice view -- I seem to remember it was picturesque, with a view of the mountains.
My preference would be to be within walking distance to town, even if it meant a less nice condo. That's because we like to walk to restaurants and bars without having to worry about drinking and driving or having to catch the shuttle.
Basically, I think it's a personal preference -- do you prefer quiet scenery or closer to shops/restaurants?

Lisa is right about the Deer Valley condo being on the road to the Deer Valley Resort. The Parkview condo doesn't look to me like it's anywhere near walking distance to downtown, Main Street, Park City. My husband loves to ski The Canyons. They have brand new condos there and it is a very short drive to downtown Park City, they probably have a shuttle. If I was staying somewhere that's where I'd be.

Barbara is right that the Park City resort is NOT the same as downtown Park City (where the shops and restaurants are). However, there is a "town lift" at the bottom of Main Street, Park City, that will take you to the lower slopes of the Park City resort. FYI.

Perhaps I can help since I live in Park City. With the availability of the public transportation and the fact that you mentioned you have a car, it will not matter where you stay. I would choose the one with the most amenities ..hot tubs etc. someone was correct in that the Park City Mountain Resort is not downtown old town PC...but again, with the convenience of the public transportation it may as well be, and it is not that far. Right now (New Years) would be a terrific time to come to PC. We are ramping up for the Olympics..there is a bit of electricity in the air...and it has been and as I write snowing like hell. We have now tons of snow with more on the way.
