our Pug wants to go too..

Hi,
Looking for a luxury B&B or hotel that takes a small dog in either Georgia, or south carolina with antiques nearby. Any suggestions. Thanks

You could tell the pug he needs to stay home because there is no way he will have a good time while you are antique shopping and he doesn't want to annoy the other B&B guests trying to avoid the day to day hassles of barking dogs.

opug, the Olde Harbour Inn in Savannah takes small dogs but gets just dreadful reviews on tripadvisor. In my somewhat limited experience, any luxury place that accepts dogs will not be very luxurious (or YOU won't get the luxury digs). Also consider what MikeT is saying, most places won't allow you to leave the dog in the room while you go out. So how do you eat?

Petfriendly.com is a website that allows you to look at places by state. Here's the list for Ga.

We just took our dog with us to Savannah and had a great time staying at the East Bay Inn. If he is a well behaved dog he will do fine, and there are plenty of places for walks in parks or plazas nearby. Good luck!

The East Bay Inn allows pets. A friend checked in and out of the Old Harbor Inn within the hour recently. There's an inn on Forsyth Park that rents a small cottage that is pet friendly, but it is very pricey. I did a google search to get ideas. Be sure to ask if they allow the dog to stay in the room alone. I often day board my pooch at a local vet when I'm in Savannah.

Why board your dog for a day when you could board it for a week?

opug: another pug owner here! is your's fawn or black? he or she? how old? we took our pug to Vermont with us last month (he is five months old) and it was his first "vacation". we went to Vermont though, not GA or SC. just wanted to raise the pug banner though! they are such characters! if you're ever in VT with yours, try the Kedron Valley Inn (South Woodstock). Moose gives it two paws up.

I love dogs. I just don't believe they love shopping or being tied up outside while humans are inside or left for long periods in stange places while their owners go out for dinner.

I just laugh when people assume pets really want to go on vacation. Their lives are a constant vacation.

Not Savannah specific, but McLaurie, your comment about luxury hotels not accepting pets isn't true. We've stayed at Four Seasons Hotels with our cocker. The Sofitel in Chicago, a lovely modern hotel currently rated as the #1 Chicago hotel on Trip Advisor, welcomes pets, and not just small dogs. When I was there in November, I shared an elevator with a man and his beautiful, charming Portugese Water Dog.
MikeT, I don't know why you assume the dogs will be barking constantly or annoying other guests. When we travel (we live in Europe), all the hotels we stay at take pets and 99% of the time, the pets are quiet and well behaved. It's the human guests that cause most problems!

BTilke, appreciate your input. I did say my experience was limited, but I found even in nicer hotels, the rooms they set aside for people with pets were the least desirable. Glad to hear that may not be sure everywhere. It is also true that many hotels will not allow you to leave the dog alone in the room.

J W Marriott in Orlando has a pet policy that they do not advertise but grant on request. You pay a $75 fee and may have your pet in your room. They have a sign that you put on the door when you are away. Housekeeping will not clean with the pet in the room.

Most Four Season's accept pets and I found my room to be fine at both the Michigan Ave Chicago. We also had a nice room in the Inn on the Park (Four Seasons) in Toronto. Most high end hotels are making major accomodations to pet owners at this time. Special little menus, bones, fancy dishes, dog walking services. It is a trend.

well, i must reply to miket, who perhaps would like to know some ins and outs of pet travel.

my dog sleeps roughly 80% during 24 hours - at home or on a trip while i am shopping, eating. since he thinks he is a person, he does not like me to leave him for long periods of time - which is why i love him so much.

he has saved me many times from spending too much in a store or having that rich, fattening dessert since it is time to get back to the car after 2 hours or so.

the only time we had trouble was in gallup nm when the man in the next non-smoking room smoked like a chimney. he was very abusive to me when i asked the manager to have him moved to a smoking room until he saw the pup.

you would love it watching us walk in the square in downtown santa fe. it's like traveling with a famous rock star.

life is good on the road with doggies. right, mz scarlett?

We have a pug too (Riley) and he is an absolute peach (despite the copious amount of shedding). Good luck finding a B&B that will accomodate you...I have to believe pet friendly places are few and far between but that they are indeed out there, you just have to keep searching.

I have always wondered about the logistics of travelling with pets. Since most shops, restaurants, and attractions in the US do not allow pets, I would think that it would be difficult to travel with a pet. Can you leave a pet in a hotel room alone? What happens if it has to go or starts barking? It's dangerous to leave them in cars.

Camping vacations are the only trips where I can see taking a pet because you will be outside so your pet can pretty much go everywhere you do.

Excuse my tardiness on responding to this post. We have two Cairn terriers that absolutely LOVE to go everywhere that we go. They KNOW when we are going away...they see the luggage being packed, and they are NOT dumb animals. They will try their best to make sure they are part of the departing luggage.
Hell, they LOVE going for a car/truck ride anywhere, as long as we are a part of that. They are the best little hikers we have ever come across. They aren't really "fond" of being on a leash, and will "sit" in a heartbeat to let us put on the leash when others are approaching. MikeT, I have no doubt that you "like" animals, I simply question whether you and a pet have ever been "devoted" to one another, as I and my friends are.
Your answers to this thread suggest otherwise.
Our girls are simply "offended" if they are not included. We have hadpeople approach us, telling us how well behaved our girls are. People don't "make" that sort of thing up.

Mike has his opinion and I share it, you may be a good dog owner but I would venture to say most dogs stink, shed hair, bark and are general headaches and oh yeah, my biggest, most owners don't pick up the poop. Glad to know where dogs are welcome because I will stay away from there, thanks for info

Glad to know where you stand "Jack1163", you have your opinion and I have mine. I would also prefer to stay at a "Dog" friendly hotel, than a "Kid" friendly hotel. My dogs are better behaved.
I am NOT against kids, just against some hotels that charge for dogs, and not for kids.
