One more way to get discount show tickets
I've been a daily reader of this forum for months and have planned my entire NYC trip using help and tips from posters here. I want to pass on an additional tip that I have not seen mentioned: in addition to getting discounted tickets at a TKTS booth or playbill.com (which I am a member of) you can also get them from theatre.com. This site was formerly called BuyBroadway.
It offers many of the same shows as playbill.com, but I've found that the dates of availability are sometimes different. I prefer to have the tickets in my hand before I leave to avoid standing in line at TKTS. We desperately want to see Cabaret; playbill.com offers tickets, but only through the end of May. I was able to get them from theatre.com for the date I wanted in June at the same price offered by playbill ($67.50 for a $90 seat). I'm guessing that playbill.com will eventually offer tickets in June, but I wasn't willing to take the chance.
Just like playbill, you have to register as a member, but it's free.
I hope others can benefit from this additional site!! Happy traveling!

Whoa! I'm a little confused. I just went to www.theater.com and joined. However, I could not find any way to get discounted theater tickets. In fact, just the opposite. All the prices I checked were higher than box office prices. Andrea, please explain to me how you managed to get the discounted tickets you mentioned. Being a New Yorker and a regular theater goer, I sure would like to know how you did it!

To Howard and others who are interested: As a member, Theatre.com will send you an e-mail on a weekly basis. (I think it's on Thursdays, but I'm not positive.) It was through this e-mail that I was able to get the Cabaret tickets. They post new discounts with a code which you then use to call and purchase the tickets through Telecharge. I hope this is helpful!
