One Day in LA

I arrive from Sydney at 10pm, have 2 nights and one whole day in LA before flying out at 9:30am.
I'm looking at staying at Santa Monica. How easy is it to get to LAX airport from there?
Is this the best place to be for my one day? What are the MUST-SEE places?
Thanks
Ruth

Santa Monica is a good choice and has pretty easy access to LAX. Having only one day, you will have to decide on exactly what you wish to see. Los Angeles is very spread out so you will be limited to what you can do in one day. It would be impossible to list the must see places as there are so many of them. You need to give some indication of what you like before any recommendations can be made. It could be that Santa Monica may not be the best choice depending on what you wish to do.

It's pretty easy and probably a good choice. There is a large road that goes directly from SM to LAX (Lincoln Blvd) and it's only about 8 miles or so, I think, so doesn't take that long. I always drive straight down Lincoln Blvd although some cab drivers try to take you the long and busy way down 405 freeway. I don't know what would be a must-see for you, depends on your interests.

Santa Monica is itself one of the places to see. You might also try to get up to the new Getty Museum. Good art and a beautiful view of the city. Beverly Hills etc. is not far away either. Only other place that's easy and nice is Marina del Rey if you wanted to drive down to the beach cities.

Ruth - Go biking in our great city. The best way to see the city is by bicycle. You can rent them at Perrys & Blazzing Saddles at the ocean or at LA Bike Tours in Hollywood. Take a bicycle tour. They are the best. Happy Trails.
