Old question with new spin... Hyatt vs Hilton vs Casa Marina in Key West

There are 3 of us ladies who are escaping from our husbands for 5 days. I realize the beaches in Key West aren't that great, but, what about the pool areas? How does these 3 hotels rate in that area? If Casa Marina has the best pool, we don't mind the walk to town. However, if the Hyatt or Hilton also have a nice pool (We're wanting to get a nice spring tan!), then we'll stay there because of it's location. Also, have read for the first time about Hilton's island... what's that all about and how nice is it?

None of the above. Try a B&B it will be much more relaxing.

The Hilton operates - but does not own -the Sunset Key Cottages on Sunset Key, about an 8 minute ferry ride from the Hilton. People who stay at the Hilton have pool privileges at Sunset Key, but my understanding is that it's based on the amount of space available. Sunset Key is a residential island and once you're there, you can't walk around at will. If you're staying in the cottages, you're limited to the cottage area.

The Casa Marina has the best "beach" and probably the best pool of your choices. I would eliminate the Hilton has an option simply because its pool area is adjacent to a rather large (and sometimes rowdy) bar. The one time we stayed at the Ocean Key House, the pool area was filled with screaming children (and I've heard the Casa Marina was a favorite for families, too). I personally like the pool area at the Hyatt, though it's smaller than the others. I'm not sure when your trip is planned but beware that it isn't always warm in Key West! We were there last February and there were days when it was chilly.

I agree with the above poster....Ocean Key's pool is the best. As a bonus, the pool attendent, Daniel, bring you cold towels & sorbet. AWESOME!

Do you need the pool to swim laps? If so, the resorts will have the bigger pools. But, as has been touched upon, these pools fill up early (sometime as early as 9:00 am) and it's difficult to find a lounge chair. Not to mention the high number of children.
Personally, if the pool is for nothing more than lounging around to catch rays, then I'd look at the B&Bs. The Gardens Hotel and the Marquesa have great pools.

J T brings up some good points. The B&Bs are so nice in Key West and are really the best places to stay in that town. The houses are beautiful.

The B&B's offer several options. However, if you are using/accumulating points with a chain, I'd suggest the Hyatt. Having stayed there and at the Casa Marina, the fact that Hyatt's location is quite convenient, plus the fact that the pool is quite nice and located next to the beach area of the hotel, IMO the advantages outweigh any disadvantage. It is a short walk to Duval or Mallory Square.
In regard to the Hilton, be aware that the cruise ships dock directly in front of it, so if you're hoping for ocean views they may be blocked. Also, the ferry to their beach area charges a daily fee on a first come first serve basis.
If you decide to pursue the B&B option, there are several threads here that address these.
Have a great trip!

Susan-

I second the HYATT- the hotel is gorgeous, the pool area is wonderful and it is a super short walk to town.

For a BnB-definitely the MARQUESA-as it also has a pool but is a to die for BnB.

casa marina has the best pool, hyatt and hilton are in a much better location, the Hyatts pool situation is too small and will be filled on a busy day. the hyatt "beach" is a joke. how important the pool is to you should help you decide. the best combo is ocean house (pool and location)
