North Lake Tahoe - massage and bicycle questions

Spending a few days in the Tahoe area at the end of August and wonder if any of you locals or regularvisitors know of any good massage therapists (or day spas) that aren't ridiculously expensive. We love getting massages when we travel, but usually avoid the pricey hotel spas and tourist day spas in favor of the local massage therapists who the locals use.

Also are there any bike paths along/around the lake? I would like to do some biking to try to get back into riding more but would like to find a path with out cars if possible!

Thanks for any info.

There is a bike path around the lake. Here's a link showing it (not sure where you're staying).

Perfect. Thanks. We will be staying at Brockaway Springs in a condo there.

Will still be grateful for any massage/body work suggestions!

Oh, I'm jealous . When our kids were little (pre-school and elementary school), we used to stay at Brockway for a week every August with a couple of other families with kids similar ages. We loved it! Don't miss playing miniature golf at the course IN Kings Beach (there's a fancy "castle" one down the road in Carnelian Bay, but the one in Kings Beach is one of the best I've ever played on -- very creative).

When you're biking, if you want to stop for a lunch or a beer, the Bridge Tender in Tahoe City is terrific -- sit outside in the back. We ate there after a very long hike at Emerald Bay (we were ravenous when we were done which might explain why we thought it was so good )

Whatever you do, SKIP the Brockway Bakery. I think all their baked goods were actually baked in 1985. What passes for a croissant is humorous.

Thank you sf7307! Just the sort of insider info that is so sweet to have (and your miniature golf suggestion reminded me of a time last July outside of Denali in Alaska when we played at 11 pm because it was so light!) Will check it out!

The Brockaway condo was a bit of a an unknown from vrbo.com so am really glad for the endorsement too!

mstraveler, don't expect fancy at Brockway - the condos are perfectly well-outfitted, but pretty plain. But the setting makes up for it! Have you seen the picture of the pool on the website -- it looks just like that!

Actually don't care about fancy. Well outfitted with a great setting is what we are after. Just want to settle in and enjoy the area while sidestepping the "tourist scene". Always want to find where the people who live in an area get their groceries and their massages!

groceries is easy. ( can't help with massage) - there's a Safeway on the other end of the main drag in King's Beach - maybe a couple of miles (if that) from Brockway).

"there's a Safeway on the other end of the main drag in King's Beach" . . and an even nicer Raley's 3 miles east in Incline Village. The Safeway is just over 1 mile west.

Both are mere minutes from Brockway.

The only massage therapist I know about is one in Incline (I haven't used them personally, but the condos where my parent have a place recommend him)

http://www.inclinemassage.com/. .

But there are several massage therapists in and around Incline/Kings Beach/Tahoe City--I'd ask at the condo office for a recommendation.
