New York to Austin, Texas Roadtrip
Hey everyone!
So in about a month, my friend and I will be road tripping from Westchester, New York to Austin, Texas. He has left it to me to plan EVERYTHING for this trip (hotels, food, stops, etc.) and I'm at a total loss -- one of my possible routes had us going through Canada. I think we would prefer to go north and skip D.C., Charlotte, Atlanta, etc. because we both grew up on the east coast.
We are planning on leaving August 5th and arriving in Austin the night of August 11th (my apartment lease starts on the 12th). We are both 23-24 and pretty much down for anything.
I think what I'm really trying to figure out is good attractions and pit stops. I think Memphis is a must because of "Rendez-Vous" (the worlds greatest ribs).
Suggestions would be amazing!!
Thanks a bunch

It would be helpful to know what your interests are - history, museums, nature/hiking, music, seeing baseball games along the way?
Also, are you driving your car with just you two and luggage? You car loaded down with your worldly possessions? A U-Haul-type truck?
Is your friend moving to Austin as well? Spending several days with you after you arrive? Leaving the next day? If the latter, you might want to arrive in Austin a few days early so you can explore it together.

Having 5-6 days to cover the distance is good.
First day- Westchester through PA I-81 and I66 to Front Royal Virginia. Second day- Drive the Skyline Drive all the way to Waynesboro and over to Staunton to get on I-81 to Bristol TN.
Third day- Bristol TN to Memphis. Enjoy your time in Memphis.
Fourth day- spend a few hours in Memphis before heading for Texarkana, Arkansas. Fifth day- Decide what you want to see between Texarkana and Austin.
