New York City-2 days????

My wife and I will be in NYC in Dec staying at Warwick. Any comments on Warwick? How about matinees to see? Plan on seeing St Pats, Times square, Rock center, stores for holidays; how about any specifics for must sees in these areas.

Thanks for any help.

My wife and I stayed four nights at the Warwick in September and loved the hotel and the location.

You aren't far from the Ed Sullivan Theater if you want to try to get Letterman tickets. Show up outside the theater doors about 10 a.m.; often they hand out a few tickets to that afternoon's taping if you can answer a Letterman trivia question. If you can't be there at 10 a.m., there is a phone number posted on the door to call at 11 a.m. No guarantee, but worth a try. It worked for us.

I liked the bar, Connolly's, across the street from the Warwick entrance. Relatively cheap drink prices, a friendly after-work crowd. (The vendor on that side of the street has better hot dogs than the vendor on the Warwick side, if you care.)

Greg, thanks for the advice. 2 things I know I will do while In NYC, drink and have a dog off the street, thanks. How far in walking was the hotel from Rock center, Broadway, and Times Square? Any great restaurants that you would recommend. I plan on flying in on a Saturday morning and leaving Monday morning. Trying to cram everything in as usual. We are 32 and active, probably walk until we drop, dont want to leave that general area if I dont have to, plenty to see there. Probably stupid questions because I am sure there are all of the things we want but: how about sidewalk spots for coffee, drinks, restaurants, etc. Im sure there are a million. Any further advice would be great. thank you.

I"ll try to post it in two replies cuz this is really getting to me now..

Hey Rick
I've tried posting a reply to your message three times and it hasn't come up on the Fodors board yet.. I still see only 2 responses.. so I decided to take it and paste it right here in an email to you... some of the stuff I just copied and pasted from various sites, picking and choosing the things I recommend most:

Rick -

1- You should get your tickets for any Bway play at the TKTS booth on 47th and Broadway. Tickets are either half or three-quarter price (plus a $2.50 service charge) and are available on the day of performance. They're hours are: The hours are:
Monday to Saturday for evening Tickets --Booth open from: 3:00p.m. to 8:00p.m.
Wednesday & Saturday for matinee tickets ---Booth open from: 10:00a.m. to 2:00p.m
Sunday for matinee and evening tickets --Booth open from: 11:00a.m. to closing.

For a listing of the shows available on the day you plan on going:
http://www.tdf.org/programs/tkts/obwaylisting.htm

2- If you're not italian, I would recommend going to see Tony n Tina's wedding.. a lot of fun, except for me it was just a little corny cuz I am italian and I see weddings just like that all the time.. but it's great!!

3- One more thing I must suggest: Go see the Christmas Spectacular at Radio City Music Hall. I've been a part time seasonal employee there for 9 years now and the Christmas Spectacular is absolutely wonderful to see again and again... The Radio City Music Hall Box Office is between 50th and 51st Streets and The Avenue of the Americas.
Open 10AM-8PM Monday-Saturday and 11AM-8PM Sunday. By phone call 212-307-7171..
Here is a link to the showtimes for December: http://www.radiocity.com/schedule/xmas_nyc.html
If you go, don't get a PEAK show, they're more expensive... See an OFF-PEAK show...

4- Another suggestion: $16 but worth it:
When visiting Radio City Music Hall be sure to take the tour that brings you behind the scenes at America's greatest showplace! Tour guides lead guests on a fascinating journey through New York's most spectacular landmark buildings. Come learn about the Great Stage, view Art Deco designs, see the mighty Wurlitzer Organ, experience the private apartment of the Music Hall's founder, Roxy Rothafel (never before open to the public), visit the active rehearsal halls, and top it all off by meeting one of the world-famous Rockettes!
YES, REAL ROCKETTE WILL BE THERE TO GREET YOU IN HER ROCKETTE COSTUME!!!

CONTINUATION.........
FYI: Last year, the New York Christmas Spectacular broke all box office records for the 20th year in a row.

Hee hee... I just love Radio City!!!!

OK, a few other things to do:
5- Bryant Park
Midtown Manhattan. After a complete redevelopment and image metamorphosis it now boasts attractive indoor and outdoor restaurants and cafes.

6- Chelsea Piers
Midtown Manhattan. A 30-plus acre sports complex housing a golf driving range, ice-and roller-skating rinks, bowling alley, batting cages, kids play facility and a large health club with an Olympic-size pool. It also has shops and several restaurants which overlook the Hudson river.

7- Little Italy
Lower Manhattan. An excellent place for an immersion into Old World atmosphere. In summer, enjoy al fresco dining on Mulberry Street reminiscent of an evening in Naples or Rome. Also the place to buy authentic Italian cheeses, sausages and bread.

8- NBC Studio Tours (right across the street from Radio City)
Midtown Manhattan. A 1-hour tour of the production areas of various TV shows.
(212) 664-4000.

9- New York Public Library
Midtown Manhattan. It houses over 5 million volumes in its research library. 42nd Street and Fifth Avenue. (212) 930-0800.

10- New York Skyride
Midtown Manhattan. Two 40-seat big screen flight simulator theaters, featuring a wild ride over Manhattan's skyline. 2nd floor Empire State Building. (212) 279-9777.

11- St Patrick's Cathedral
One of the largest churches in the U.S. It has a seating capacity of 2,400, the pipe organ has more than 7,380 pipes. Fifth Avenue at 50th Street. (212) 753-2261

12- United Nations Headquarters
One-hour tours depart from the lobby daily. Consists of the Secretariat Building, the domed General Asssembly Building, Conference Building and the Hammarskjold Library.
First Avenue, between 42nd and 48th streets. (212) 963-7713.

Enjoy and let me know if I can be of further assistance..
Is this your first time to NYC???
