New Hilton in Las Vegas
Hi, I'm going to Las Vegas in February and recently was offered a promotional rate at the new Hilton on the strip. It's my first time to Vegas so I'm looking for some advice. As it was explained to me, this Hilton just opened in October and is a 5 star resort. It's located at the far end of the strip across from the water park. I'm a little concerned about the location because I heard that this area is not very nice. Any comments? Has anyone seen or stayed there yet? Any ideas/suggestions would be greatly appreciated!

Well it's not a "5 star" resort if your rating system uses only 5 stars. It might be 5 star in a 7 star system. It's going to be the same quality as a new Embassy Suites hotel. Good value for the dollar if you get a good rate.
The area is run down, it's north of Circus Circus (farther away from the center of the strip) toward Sahara, not as far north as Stratosphere (end of the strip).
On the other hand, if you get a good rate, it's a new hotel, all suites, so the location could be ignored if the savings are worth it to you.
For a special occasion I wouldn't choose this hotel, but for a simple getaway to try something new at low risk to you, you've got nothing to lose.

Just so we're clear-- you're discussing a Hilton's Grand Vacations property, i.e., a time share. You will indeed be across from Wet 'n' Wild, well north of anything else you'll want to see on the Strip. And you'll have to put up with the sales pitches for the time shares. The cheap rates are to lure people in for the presentations.

Thanks for the warning! We're going with another couple and they were given the information. We won't be there long enough to waste time listening to a sales pitch. What reasonably priced hotels do you suggest? Should we wait a while and see if any "deals" become available?

If you'll provide a budget range and time of month (and whether it'll be a weekend or weekdays) you'll egt more specific suggestions.
prices vary greatly in LV from day to day and week to week, but February's always got plenty of bargain dates. It's one of the low demand montn LV as it's still cool and set apart from the holidays.
