Need recommendations for California trip
Hello
I've been working hard trying. To figure out the best route for my California trip. So far I am traveling with my 25 year old girlfriend to sanfranscico. We will be arriving in San Fran on a Saturday in February. We are staying downtown San Fran Saturday &Sunday night. Then Monday we are renting a car and going to tree bones resort and staying there Monday night. Now when we check out in Tuesday 11am we aren't sure we're to go from there.
Idea one: travel up north to the redwood forest for a few days and be back in San Fran Friday night
* we r leaving from SFO airport Saturday night at 9:44 and we need to return the car from downtown San Fran
Idea 2: travel down to Palm Springs where the weathers hot!
I am open to other suggestions because I am not sold on either idea!
Into hiking, outdoor activities, night life, exploring
Thank you so much!

West Hollywood along Sunset Blvd. & Hollywood are nice places for nightlife. For your non-nightlife activities it is better to stay in Hollywood near the intersection of Hollywood Blvd. and Highland Ave., as this is a big public transportation and tour bus hub. You'll generally find that hotels in West Hollywood are more expensive than in Hollywood.

You can walk among redwoods without driving to California's far north: http://gocalifornia.about.com/od/cap...California.htm
If you weren't totally committed to Tree Bones Resort on Monday, you could explore redwoods that day.
Yosemite is a great idea if you haven't been there. You could drive down the coast to Cambria, check out the Hearst Castle, and the continue on to Yosemite:

You could return to San Francisco on historic Highway 49 for some interesting local history: http://www.historichwy49.com/mainmap.html

Gold Country as suggested by HTTY is a good idea, we went there some time ago in early February (friend loaned us a cabin) and had a great time, a little rain but not a lot. We enjoyed visiting the towns and a few mines, there is also a few nice wineries in the area with halfway reasonable tasting fees. The main drawback was a lot of the activities like panning for gold and stagecoach rides in Columbia State Park were closed that time of year.

I agree with janisj and HTtY. You can see Coast Redwoods south of San Francisco at Butano State Park and a few other parks.
If there is not too much snow in Yosemite, by all means go there even in February.
