Mt. Pleasant or IOP for condo rental for 6 nights

Since I hate to eat three meals out for 6 days, we are considering renting a townhouse, condo while we visit Charleston. we have had luck with VRBO before - What kind of drive is it from IOP into Charleston. It doesn't sound like Mt. Pleasant is very far at all. We want to see the charm of Charleston, the history, taste the foods etc. Would it be a big deal to drive every day or so into Charleston from I.O.P. Our plan would be 6 nights with about 4 days of serious Charleston and a couple of days just watching the ocean with some bike riding and walks on the beach before heading down to Savannah for 3 days. .Recommendations?????

There are probably others here with more extensive experience, but I'll chime in to get you started. I was in Charleston over New Year's, and we drove out to IOP for our midnight celebrations (running into the ocean at midnight with friends = priceless!). If I recall correctly, it took us 20-25 minutes from downtown Charleston. That was with not much traffic, around 10:30pm, so it may take a little longer during the day. Still, I don't think it would be a bad drive to do a few times during your vacation.

jent103!Y'all! In the ocean on New Year's? I shall get the vapors. And my fake fuh. Cold!

I live in Mt. Pleasant and I adore it. But for a visit stay at the beach and drive in. It's easy.

I agree w/ suewoo. Stay at the beach.
Are you looking at villas at Wild Dunes on IOP?

suewoo, my feet were definitely numb after a couple minutes. Totally worth it, though! The beach was almost completely deserted, stars out... fantastic.

However, if you'd had your fake fuh with you, I would definitely have borrowed it for the walk back to the car!

I always recommend folks either stay in the historic district or out at the beach. However, given what the OP is looking to do (2/3rds of their time in Charleston), I think staying in Mount Pleasant has some merit. It would shave at least 10 minutes off of the trip to Charleston (even more if we're talking about Wild Dunes) and the beach is very close by. And there are some good dining options in Mount Pleasant.

I guess it would come down to what kind of condo I could get in MP vs IOP and the costs involved. The drive to/from Charleston from IOP is not a big deal, but I wouldn't want to do it a couple times a day for 4 days.
