where did you stay in Monterey-Carmel area that might appeal to my wife and I?

The Cypress Inn in Carmel is lovely. Dog-friendly too, if that appeals.

We stayed at the Carriage House Inn in Carmel - beautiful, romantic, and the hosts were delightful. Walking distance to restaurants and shops. Would highly recommend it!

Not knowing what may appeal to you both I would like to put in a vote for the Rosedale Inn located just across from the Asilomar Conference Grounds. Fireplace, etc. Very nice place. It puts you roughly midway between Carmel and Monterey. Just near the very attractive town of Pacific Grove (Hometown USA). If you would just like a place to hang your hat that is comfortable then the Pacific Grove Motel is a good spot. We've stayed at both and have been very satisfied. There is the Lighthouse Lodge and Suites, a little pricey but very nice. We travel out from the east every year to spend a few weeks just walking and watching the ocean so we are now going the Pacific Grove Motel direction. It is close to the Monterey Bay Aquarium and not very far from the start of the Seventeen Mile Drive. Hard to be specific Roy, when we don't know how long you will be there. Feel free to drop a line if you need any additional info.

My Wife and I stayed in 1992 at the Cobblestone Inn and thought it was wonderful. We got the Honeymoon Suite (not on our honeymoon though) and it is really special with a fireplace, large sitting area and huge bathroom. My brother in law and wife went last year and loved it too (same room).
