MOAB NP
Hi all. Need help with a timeline. We are going to MOAB last week of August and on to Wyoming on the 1st of September. We are planning on flying into Grand Junction and renting a car one way, flying out of Jackson Hole.
We have not booked airfare yet so we are flexible on dates to leave so my question is this:
How many days should we dedicate to fully exploring MOAB? Or any other areas that are "don't miss"?
It will take a full day to drive to Jackson so we will need to leave Utah on Aug. 31st.
THANK YOU!

Other ideas, none of which are "must see," but will be of definite interest to certain people:
Anyone who enjoys mountain biking will need a full day to explore the innumerable exciting trails in the area.

People who like to see movie sites, and memorabilia.

We flew into Grand Junction just as you plan to do. Then got a car and over to Moab we went. We stayed 3 days. Probably could have stayed one more, but 3 was just fine. Remember that you will spend time driving there.
Have a great trip. Arches is beautiful.

OH! I thought I asked this but I don't see it now..... Where would any of you recommend we locate our lodgings? Is there a preferred area to access both Arches and Canyonlands? THANKS!

Realize it will be at least a 9 hour drive to Jackson from Moab. I would leave Moab at like 4 or so, stay in Salt Lake for the night, and then go up to Jackson the next day or spend the bulk of a day driving to Idaho Falls, and then to Jackson in the morning. It's a loooong drive on smaller roads. The only interstate is south of SLC up to Idaho Falls. Even better to take the time and take a more scenic route if you can.

Out here 65 is slow!!' Not to mention you have that whole stretch from I70 to Pricd and then over Soldier Summit etc. or the back roads through Wyoming--it's a long haul. At least it changes up quite a bit!

Thanks, all.
Last year we flew into SD to see Mt. Rushmore, etc and then drove to Coty, Wy. 80 mph speed limits and beautiful scenery, stopping at Devil's Tower and Bighorn was an all day trip but so worth it. From Coty we drove into Yellowstone and spent 4 days there and on to the Tetons, staying at Jenny lake Lodge, flying home out of Jackson.....We loved JLL so much I booked it again for this year.
That is why I decided this year to fly into Grand Junction ,see Moab and then onto Jackson for our stay at JLL.
We were going to do a straight through drive of an entire day BUT, now that you suggested it, maybe we will break it up, stay one night along the way, then drive the rest of the way to Jackson. (I was going to stay one night in Jackson prior to JLL just to crash). I have a friend in Ogden and was hoping to meet for a lunch or something.....
OK. Now my NEXT question is....where between Moab and Jackson is a good place to visit? I am not really interested in SLC. My husband has been there. I dunno. Maybe it it is worth it?
Thanks again!

Vernal is a good choice and you can go into the section of Dinosaur NP that has the dig/display of the bones from there.
If you travel down the road past the turnoff to the VC a short way, there are great pictographs and petroglyphs, some of lizards that are very nice. There are a couple of museums there too.
