Maui resorts?
Will be traveling to Maui in July 2002 (hopefully- GOD willing). Stayed at the Sheraton Waikiki in 2000 and loved it. Need help to narrow down our search. We have 6 travelers (1 is our 8 yr. old son). Anyone have any input on these resorts: Sheraton Maui, Westin Maui, Hyatt Regency Resort and Spa Maui. DO NOT need input on Wailea or Kapalua area thank you.

I just returned from the Hyatt Regency Maui. I would not stay there again. The rooms were at best well worn and at worst dumpy. The grounds are very beautiful, but the accomodations and the resort fee were a joke. We also stayed at the HR Kauai and it was much nicer and no resort fee. Go figure?
Visiting each resort we thought the Sheraton would have likely been a better value. The whole Kaanapali area was not as nice as Wailea and Kapalua. The golf courses were so dry I didn't ever play them.
Last of all we were told that some of the rooms at the Hyatt would be getting a full make over, so I would check this out before you go. The Marriot had some construction going on while we were there. One positive was that the service was excellent.

We stayed at the Hyatt about a year ago and found it similar to Eric's post. I was disappointed with the hotel and the staff. My vote would be for the Sheraton particularly because it has the best location on that beach next to the Black Rock. But if you want a big pool area, the Westin or Hyatt would be better.
