Maui

Would like suggestions on "really amazing" restaurants in Maui. Now particularly interested in show, but the quality of the food. Leaving 5/1 for 7 days. Any suggestions ?

Do you want this restaurant to be near your hotel or does it matter? I think universally people would suggest Mama's Fish House in Paia.

Mama's is quite good - but like all places - depends on who is the current chef. If you want more of a fusion experience - try
Sansei. http://www.sanseihawaii.com/ and other places in the Kaanapali/Kapalua area.

There are a lot of good places and in Lahaina - where we also liked Hawaiian style Roy's and Duke's - and others: http://maui.diningguide.com/dl1la.htm

"Really amazing" is a high bar. Except for Mama's (where I've never eaten - it's not worth the price to me) I don't know that there's anything in Maui I'd call "really amazing".

Merrimans restaurant in the Kapalua area is worth checking out. Although I did not have dinner there- just appetizers at happy hour- this is a beautiful spot- and it does have good reviews on Trip Advisor.

If you don't go for dinner- go for happy hour- I love this place

There are many great restaurants in Maui. But "really amazing" would be Mama's Fish House.

I liked Mama's Fish House because of the ambience. It is lovely and a nice place to be.

I realize that on any given day you can be disappointed by a really highly rated restaurant. It can happen. You can also be amazed at a restaurant that never gets mentioned in travel books and reviews. Food preparation is one of those really subjective things so you have to understand who the reviewer is.

I had two spectacular and amazing meals in Maui at the Marriott Ocean Resort but things change so quickly in the Maui restaurant scene one never knows if a chef has moved on the week, month, year after you leave.

I'm not a huge fan of Mama's for dinner (way overpriced IMO), but I do enjoy lunch there when it's a little more reasonably priced.

Two of my favorites: Plantation House in Kapalua (dinner, not breakfast) and Mala Ocean Tavern in Lahaina (need reservations - bar spots hard to get).

If memory servies me right - the Ritz had a very good breakfast/lunch deck - good quality food with a fabulous view. http://www.ritzcarlton.com/en/Proper...otoGallery.htm

And there used to be a Mama's in Kiehi - not sure if it's still there?
