Marriott hotel French Quarter NOLA

I'm looking for some advice for a couple gals thinking of staying at the Marriott French Quarter in the next two weeks. Is it a good location (for gals) What's around it that we'd enjoy? Give me your thoughts please!!

It's a good hotel, as are most of the hotels in the FQ. It's safe and clean, and like everything in the FQ, it's only a few blocks away from all that's there. The FQ is a very small area.

Main trouble is that I don't know of any Marriott that is in the French Quarter. There is a Courtyard and a Marriott that both advertise that they are NEAR the FQ, but they ain't IN it. Someone might be pulling your leg. Go to "French Quarter Hotels" on this forum and you'll find lots to choose from. Good luck.

LN,we stayed at the Hilton St. Charles and we loved it. It is an old historic building and it is on the other side of Canal, and something we really liked was that we were only a five minute walk from all the fun of the French Quarter but we fair enough away to get plenty of quiet.

Ohhh dear - Marriott says they have a four star in the French Quarter. I guess I'd best do more research.

LN - Marriott is pushing the envelope with their description. The Marriott French Quarter is actually at 555 Canal Street. So I guess that technically it's on the French Quarter side of Canal.

It is basically a huge convention hotel. So expect what you would get from one of those. Lots of fairly generic rooms and opulent public spaces. Unless you are getting it free with points I'd look elsewhere.

The location is ok, you're just out of the Quarter.

We have always enjoyed the Monteleone. It is on Royal a couple of blocks off Canal in the Quarter.

there are also lots of smaller hotels farther into the Quarter as well.

I'd hardly call a Marriott opulent. The one they're talking about is on the FQ side of Canal - and is a huge standard business/convention type hotel. All of the basics, but nothing opulent.

Our favorite in the FQ is the Dauphine . .

One block off Bourbon and close to everything

Oops, I meant to say that like most convention hotels if the public can see it it is usually fancied up, while the rooms are usually small and generic for the most part.

The Marriott on Canal Street isn't really in the FQ. I think you would probably be happier finding another hotel that is actually in the FQ. The Marriott is a big, generic convention hotel on a busy, commercial street. It's surrounded by office towers and the usual big city first floor retail/commerical tenants such as Starbucks and McDonalds. You can do better in NO.
