Lodging Suggestions needed for West Orange (N. NJ)

We'll be heading to West Orange soon to attend a wedding. The wedding will be held at The Manor (111 Prospect Ave, West Orange). I hope fellow Fodorites can give us some suggestions for lodging in the area.

There is a Marriott Residence Inn right next to the wedding site, but it's quoting >$200/night. Does anyone know if there're other alternatives nearby?

I also looked at Priceline, but the closest zones are:
Short Hills - Summit
Newark Airport
Meadowlands - Rutherford
Secaucus - North Bergen
Clark - Westfield

Does anyone have any comments on any of them?

Where are you coming from and how are you traveling?

I'd try the Holiday Inn website. There's one in Fairfield and one in Clifton -- each less than 10 miles from your destinantion -- and coming in at about $100 a night on the weekends.

We actually attended a wedding last month there and stayed at the Marriot. I do know that the parents of the bride also had a block of rooms at a Radisson which was about 20 mins. away. They said that there were NOT really a lot of choices in the immediate area of the Manor. I believe that the Radissson was quite cheaper. Keep in mind that the Marriot is all suites so I know that in many cases 2 young couples split the room...one couple on the sofa bed.

Thanks for all your replies. We've reserved the Marriott Courtyard at Newark Airport for $94/night.

We'll be flying into Newark the day of the wedding, and rent a car from the airport. I think the Newark Courtyard will work fine for us (free parking).

I found out that there's another Courtyard in W Orange, which is less than 2 miles from the wedding site, but the cheapest rate is $139.

There's nothing wrong with Newark Marriott if it's just for sleeping/showering and it has it's own parking.

The Manor, btw, has beautiful grounds and very good food. It should be just about no more than 20 minutes drive from your hotel.

Either pay for something close and nice (like that Courtyard near the wedding site), or bid 3* Priceline for EWR (or any of the adjacent zones). Lots of winning bids for <$60. No reason to pay $94 for a EWR Courtyard.

I suggest a Marriott property in West Orange. Orange, though adjacent to West orange, is not very nice IMO (I live in West Orange). And I don't think there are any hotels worth recommending. Newark airport is about 20-25 minutes from West Orange. Summit is about 15-20 minutes (opposite direction), depending on traffic and is very affluent. Given Jersey traffic I would stay close to the wedding, so West Orange or Sumitt. I would only stay at EWR airport if my return flight left very early. No charm or atmosphere to speak of whatsoever at the airport. Good luck.

Try the Hilton Parsippany. We have a room block there for our wedding for $98 a night- there is also the Westminster Hotel at Route 10 and Eisenhower Pwky- the rates were $125/nght there. Both are close enough to West Orange without having to worry about traffic.

Do Not Stay At A Marriott in NJ!!!!!! I recently attended a wedding reception at the Venetian. Since all the people attending the wedding were staying at a nearby Marriott we too decided to stay. What a mistake!! After the ceremony at the church we wanted to checkin and freshen up before going to the reception. We pulled into the MARRIOTT SADDLEBROOK at around 6 pm and came back out around 6:45 pm only to find our Cadillac Escalade - GONE - thats right stolen!!! The Marriott claims no responsilibility and they don't have surveillance cameras. The police say this is a HUGE problems with Marriott and other hotels - BE VERY CAREFUL and don't trust the Marriott like we did!!!!
