Lodging near Mono Lake and Yosemite

We recently decided to go to California in June. When visiting Yosemite we have always stayed in park lodging. I am checking frequently and have so far managed to book hotel rooms for 2 of our anticipated 4 nights. If I can't get lodging for the first two nights of our trip, I am considering driving directly from the SF airport to Mono Lake and booking lodging near there. We spent a few hours there before and thought the tufa spires were fascinating. I would appreciate recommendations of where to stay near Mono Lake, and alternatively outside of Yosemite National Park.

Thanks!

For outside the park -- Yosemite View Lodge in El Portal is your best bet. It is right outside the park entrance and is a short drive from the Valley.

For mono Lake - maybe the Murphey's Motel. Nothing in Lee Vining is super-terrific AFAIK but all are serviceable.

Twenty minutes south of Lee Vining is the Double Eagle Resort at June Lake.

You could contact Tioga Pass Resort to see if they have a cancellation.

We like it and LOVE the location, but some of the accomodations are a bit funky. TPR is just outside the eastern entrance to the park on 120.

I've stayed @ Indian Flat RV resort in El Portal; they have a couple cabins that are quite reasonable in off-season, of course pricier in summer. A bit on the funky side, too, but pleasant, and at least one has small kitchen. About 30 min drive to Yosemite Valley or take the YARTS bus that stops right next to the resort.

Not familiar w/ what might be available on Wawona side of the park.
