Las Vegas Strip in 1 1/2 hrs. - is this possible?

My 2 older teens and I will be flying from Seattle to Dallas in mid-July. One of our options is a flight with a 3-hr. layover in Las Vegas (3-6 pm). Assuming the flight is on-time, I would like to take my kids on a quick tour down the Strip. Would it be possible to say, catch a taxi at the airport, ride down the Strip, and get back to the airport in 1 1/2-2 hrs.? Does traffic move really slow on the Strip? I read in another post that the new monorail will cover the distance in 14 min., but isn't this an extension of the old MGM monorail that goes behind the casinos -- not down the Strip? Going by taxi, can anyone estimate about how much this would cost?

In 1 1/2 hour, you'll be able to see as much as you will from the airplane window.

And you definitely won't miss your connecting flight that way!

That would be pretty tight -- and remember you have the infamous Las Vegas traffic plus airport security -- and the last time I went through LAS is was s-l-o-w. It wouldn't be worth the risk to me.

Not really enough time at that time of day. If it's a Fri-Sun, traffic will be at a standstill from MGM down to Venetian.

Negotiate a price with a cab driver. 3 hours layover should be okay to catch a nice 1 hour tour.
