i lived in ca for 4 years. hollywood is not particularly safe. be careful at night, stay on the boulevard, sunset blvd. is safer. to the west, west l.a. or malibu is better, especially gladstone's in malibu on the pacific coast highway; torrance is very safe, no problem there and close to the ocean.

My friends will be visiting the LA area for a week. We have narrowed our hotel choices to: Renaissance at LAX, Courtyard in Century City, and Ramada in West Hollywood. Which do you recommend? We will have a rental car. Will parking be a problem everywhere we go?

Century City (adjacent to Bevery Hills) is a nice, mostly commercial area. Should be pretty safe. West Hollywood is a little hinky at night. Staying by the airport isn't bad, although the area isn't great. Go for Century City. There's a cool mall on Santa Monica just down from Ave. of the Stars.

Parking usually isn't a problem most places in LA.
