la costa resort for teens or hotel del
I'm still trying to solidify my holiday plans. Was considering 3 nites at Hotel Del Coronado and 4 nites at La Costa Resort. We have two teens. Maybe we should just stay at La Costa...or just stay at Hotel Del? My son (age 12) like to play golf ....but we also like to walk on the beach. I really hate these decisions! Thanks for your help!!

Just stayed at the La Costa Resort and with teens and during the Holidays, I would do the Hotel Del..it is so gorgeous in their decorations and you have the Coronado Golf Course that is a great course and it's public and about 8 blocks away..
Love La Costa and they have a great course right on the property and the spa is one of the best and you can go to beach at Encinitas/Carlsbad but you have to drive but its minutes away..
I just got an E-Mail from the Del for $307 a night for the holidays..
Also, try Expedia.
Brigantine and Miguel's across the street from the Del which have some of the best Seafood Happy hours and the best fish tacos ever!
Kids are welcome..

Excellent drewzilla!
Make sure you take the kids to the Brig for the best $2 fish tacos ever..happy hour everyday..
It is rated the best cheap food in SD..
As locals, we go to the Del and see all the decorations and have a drink at the piano bar.
Trip Report when you come back..
Water Taxi from the Landing to Seaport Village and that is fun and cab it to the Del since it's the other side of the island.

Thanks again. We'll have a car but will still try the water taxi. We're also planning on doing the Holiday Bowl Parade (any strategy for this??), hiking at Torrey Pines State Reserve, Sea World (4pm -- 9pm close to avoid crowds), maybe the zoo (been there, overated a little I think), golf at Coronado and somewhere else maybe (we're bringing our clubs) and ....not sure yet.

Take the water taxi over to the parade and have lunch at the Fish Market..I like the oyster bar or sit outside and have app's and drinks..restaurant is ok...or go upstairs to the the Top of the Market.
We like to play Torrey Pines and since the Buick and the US Open are in 2008 at least stop by when you go for your hike at Torrey Pines State reserve..it's right next door..
kids will love the glider port for hangliding off the cliffs to watch them take off..
Balboa Golf Course in Balboa Park is really cool too..one of the best 19th holes for super old school food..

Just returned from 4 nites at the Del and 3 nites at the Hyatt in La Jolla.
The Del was great. Yes, the definately nickel and dime you on everything, and it was expensive. But the location was really fantastic, right on the beach. And lots of action around. The Hyatt was good because I got a room thru Hotwire at $119/nite, and also access to the REgency Club there. That saved on having to have breakfast elsewhere, and it's always nice to have hors d'eurves when returning to the hotel late in the day. I'm going to post a short trip report on activities in a new thread.
Thanks again for everyone's assistance!
