Hi Tara -

My husband and I own time shares on Kauai and go every year, and although we've never stayed at the Marriott, we've heard wonderful things about it. They are now selling time share units there, and I know it's a very desirable property. It is situated on Kalapaki Beach, a crescent shaped beach that usually has calm waters, and boasts a championchip golf course, in fact my husband's favorite on Kauai. The Marriott is also centrally located on the island, so you'll be able to travel to both the Princeville and Poipu sides of the island relatively easily. I'm sure you'll enjoy yourselves! Aloha!

The Marrriott Kauai is in a great location and the beach is unique because you can swim there...it is not the most beautiful beach on the island, but it is fine...the pool at the hotel is very very nice...overall the hotel is not a glitzy as the Hyatt or even Princeville, but it nicer than any of the others...

The Kauai Marriott is a wonderful hotel. The rooms are very pleasant. It is possible to walk along the beach to restaurants outside of the hotel, although, they are very good. You will definetly enjoy it there.

As for restaurants, on Kauai, you'll be staying pretty close by A Pacific Cafe, which has wonderful Pacific Rim cuisine. Other recommendations are The Beach House, Keoki's Paradise, Pomodoro (Italian), Hanalei Dolphin (great seafood), and if you're going to be on the island on a Friday night, don't miss the seafood buffet at the Princeville Resort. It's by far the most outstanding buffet we've ever been to, bar none, but they only have it on Friday nights. We haven't been to Maui in some time, but our favorite restaurant there was Mama's Fish House, on the road to/from Hana - unbelievable selection of fish, prepared in umpteen different ways. Have a blast, Tara!

We stayed at the Marriott last February. I loved it! It was right after the Pro Bowl, and the Quarterback Challenge is on Kauai every year. All the QB's and their families were at the Marriott. We stayed in a garden view room and it was quite nice.I would highly recommend taking advantage of the classes on the veranda. The most enjoyable man taught us how to weave all kinds of cool things out of palm leaves. He also has hats available for sale. I bought one for my dad and he loved it! I agree with Margot that the Pacific Cafe is fantastic. It is one of the best meals I have ever had. If you have time B4 you leave in Honolulu, try the International Marketplace. I found BEAUTIFUL!!, made-right-there-for-me leis for only $5. The woman sprayed them with water and put them in airtight bags. I handcarried 4 leis on the plane and had them for presents 8 hours later. Much more beautiful and cheaper than anywhere else, esp. the airport that will charge you $15-25 for one lei and they are quite drab looking. Have a great time!!

We are just back from there - first time and we were very impressed. Wonderful resort - huge pool with multiple hot tubs, lovely public areas & gardens, etc. But get off the property and explore the island' public beaches and definitely go to the canyon and north shore.
We always go to Roy's - wonderful Pan-Asian cuisine- can't be missed.

Tara, My wife and I travel to Kauai every year from Pennsylvania. You can not go wrong staying at the Marriott, very nice place. I have an article of a few pages on my personal favorites of anything to do and see on that island. If you want it, please email me and I'll forward it to you. [email protected]
