Isleboro and Camden area, what to do?
Headed to Isleboro next week with my family including my 4 yo and 16 mo. Having a hard time finding any information on Isleboro and what there is to do there. Also, I was told that Camden was not too far and very nice to visit.
If anyone has any information about the area, it would be greatly appreciated!
Thansk so much.

Camden is a beautiful town home to windjammers and other sailing vessels. The downtown shopping area is always crowded. But take the auto road up Mt Battie for one of Maine's best views overlooking the harbor and you can watch boats coming along the coast. Take a picnic lunch and binnoculars. Bring bag chairs and some simple toys for the kids. Children usually enjoy picnicking. Eating should keep them busy while you enjoy the view.
On travels when our child was young we would also check for local story hours at the libraries.
Check the distance to Owls Head Lighthouse in Rockland. It requires a short hike and also nice views. There's a picnic area and rocky beach. I was talking to friends yesterday about visiting Maine. One rarely leaves the beach. The other used to beachcomb with her daughter while the guys went fishing.

There really isn't alot to do in Isleboro but lazy beach activities -- you'll have to take your car over on the frequent ferry. You can head south to Camden (nice but crowded) or head north to quaint Belfast. Cute town, nice shops and a great park for the kids. If you head north even further there is a great fort along the coast/river to explore (bring a flashlight) It is on rte l just before you cross over bridge to Bucksport.

I, too would like some ideas of things in this area. We did Battie today and drove a scenic path to Rockport Village. Saw a seaside wedding in progress. Not into museums. I am looking for top quality shops, especially textiles, like shawls. haven't seen many and Camden is very congested. We are here until Tuesday, so any suggestions?

That's a tough one. Camden seems to operate on summer tourist dollars. Further north I doubt if you'll find any upscale shops. You might find such a shop in Portland's Old Port area. I seem to recall a shop with a lot of high quality locally made crafts. In NH is would be a League of NH Crafts' shop (there are several retail outlets in the state). Are you traveling thru NH?
I googled Maine handspun yarn and found this site which lists a variety of interesting places. http://www.mainemade.com/members/sea...ts.asp?CatID=1
Hope it's helpful.
