Impressions of Buellton

Hi, everyone. I live in L.A., and I'm looking for a small town that's within driving distance to get away to for a weekend. Something similar to a small New England town that has a lot wide open space (Shelburne, VT and Cape Elizabeth, ME come to mind). I've been thinking about Buellton, but was interested in getting impressions of the town before booking anything. Thanks for your help!

I only know about the pea soup place. Sorry. What about Solvang or Big Bear, or San Simeon?

I never stayed in Buellton but have stopped off there several times. Do yourself a favor and keep going north to San Luis Obispo or Morro Bay. It is much nicer there.

Have Fun

Buellton is right next to Solvang and is located along the 101. Not much to do there. There's an older movie theater, a Burger King, McDonalds, Taco Bell and the Anderson's Split Pea Soup place. There's only so much soup you can eat in a weekend. There are wineries in the area, but Buellton is more of a roadside town for stopping on your way to someplace else.

If you haven't been to Cambria yet, I'd highly recommend a weekend there.

Jeff: You've asked this question twice. Be sure to do a search, since you have good answers on both threads.

Ojai is wide open, but doesn't remind me of New England. Cambria gets my vote. Carmel is also nice, but a little more busy and commercialized.

Actually, if you're looking for a relaxing weekend and excellent wine tasting, go to Los Olivos. It's a tiny town east of Solvang in the middle of farms, ranches & wineries. Highly recommend The Ballard Inn, but reservations far in advance are needed.
