Hyannis Ferry to Nantucket I or MV..Help

I plan on taking a ferry from Hyannis to either Nantucket or MV on Tuesday July 8th (2/A and 1/c) for a day trip. I would like to have some recommendations . Which Ferry company is good? Etc. My interest is a nice boat ride and a look around (walking) on the island, basic tourist type stuff. If I can get some info about cost and schedule ........Thanks

There are two ferry companies: Hy-Line and Steamship Authority (both have websites). Both are just fine.

Note that you can also leave Hyannis at 9AM for Nantucket, spend several hours there, cruise to Martha's Vineyard, spend several hours there, then cruise back to Hyannis. A nice option if you can't decide and would like to see a bit of both.

Have been to Nantucket for daytrip from Hyannis by ferry. At the time there were 2 ferries, one faster than the other. I think ours was the HyLine?? We parked our car at the ferry dock, took first ferry in morning and returned by last ferry about 4pm.

Nantucket is lovely, like being in another century. We walked around and took a bus tour to "Sconset at other end of island. Would dearly love to go back and stay overnight.
You will be there at same time we were, when the roses are in bloom!

Both Hy-Line and Steamship Authority have fast ferries that will get you to Nantucket in one hour from Hyannis. It's great for a day trip.

Not relevant if you are starting from Hyannis, but just heard a news story that some line has just received permission to run a passenger only (no cars) ferry from Rhode Island to MV (?Nantucket too)

That would be Galalee Cruises.

Hi there
I assume you've looked at the ferry sites, but a word of caution about bringing a car!
Reservations are required, and the ferries are typically full on weekends. (most vacation rentals are up on Saturdays or Sundays, so most people come and go to the islands on those days.)
It's also @ $110, roundtrip for a car only. (passengers & bikes pay an additional fee) I would suggest leaving the car at the terminal, and walk/bike/bus/cab around the islands. As Nantucket is the smaller island, it would be easier to navigate for a day.
Enjoy!
