How's the Hilton in Key West?

My wife and I and our two kids 9 and 7 will be staying at the Hilton at the end of Front street in Key West this May. Has anyone out there stayed at the Hilton? What did you think? We were in Key West last year and it appeared to be a very nice newer hotel in a great location. We liked the idea of taking their boat to their private island which has a nice beach, along with being near everything.

The Hilton IS in a great location, but it doesn't always get great reviews. One woman on another travel board disliked it so much she swore she'd never stay at another Hilton property. On the other hand, I've heard others who've liked it a lot, and as you mention, the Hilton shares privileges with Sunset Key, where there's a nice pool and a great restaurant. Sunset Key isn't really private though. In addition to the cottages there are a number of homes there.

I think you would be happier at the Hyatt. It is not far from the Hilton, also in a good location. It is very, very nice.

I too am staying at the Hilton. Is the Hyatt really that much nicer even with the Hilton having the nice pool and beach at Sunset Key? Has anyone out there actually stayed at the Hilton?

Lee,

We have stayed their, but it has been a few years back. Sunset Key is still superb & gets the great reviews, but the boat ride back & 4th to the island can be time consuming. The Hilton Resort has had some problems in the last year. Those that have stayed there are complaing about the rooms, staff or whatever they have come up with. If u check out the Key West board u will find a lot of answers to these questions on past posts. We stay right next door at the Hyatt Vacation Club Sunset Harbor, but their is no comparision. The Hyatt Resort still receives great reviews as it has in the past & proably in the future. The Hilton has started to fix up the place & has tried to get things rolling a lot better since all the complaints. Hope this has help all.

My wife and I stayed at the Hilton for four nights in November. We loved it. The service was excellent, staff was friendly. Absolutely no complaints..and you cannot beat the location. I would highly recommend the Hilton.

I was just in Key West and we noticed the huge line for the boat that takes you to Sunset Key. I would suggest staying at the actual hotel, not Sunset Key. You will waste so much time if the line is always like that.

Just a note: The ferry to Sunset Key from the Hilton is quoted as "on a first come, first serve basis, & is $10 per person". You may wish to check to see what the capacity/departure/return schedules for this are.

This hotel seems to be the biggest joke with the locals. I would go with something else.

Gotta keep in ind that the locals do not stay in these places. And many of them have vested interests (ownership, work there, friends of owners,) in some of these properties....

But it seems to be the locals and the regulars who have the insite when you travel to different places. I would listen to the locals where ever I go.

"KW" your theory doesn't make a lot of sense. It is the locals who know what to do, where to go and where to stay.

I don't know about other towns but Key West is too small not to listen to the locals.

Most assuredly listen to the locals on where to go, what to do and where to eat.

But where to stay? Don't think so. The locals don't stay in their own transient lodging--they stay at home. They have no first-hand experience of what the local innkeepers are offering.

Well, I am certainly not a local but two years ago my wife and I stayed at the KW Hilton and had a superb room.

It was on the second floor facing the pass leading to the gulf. You could open the curtains and watch the sunset from the room. The view was fabulous. Also, the fellow with the cats set up in front of our room each night and we got to watch the show from our balconey.

The room itself was nothing special but the proximity to Mallory Square and the views made it a memorable stay.
