Houston Lodging and other stuff

I'm planning on meeting several friends for a girls weekend in Houston, probably in early May. If you have any favorite places or areas to stay, dining tips, things to do, etc. please share. Price range would be $100.- to 130.- a night for lodging. I did see a few other posts about Houston, with the traveltex link which was good. Thanks!

What part of Houston? Will you have a car?

Bid 4* Galleria or Downtown on Priceline. $60-65 will do it.

Not sure yet what part of Houston, though we are leaning towards the Galleria or Downtown. Some of us will have cars. I won't myself, and will be flying in (prob. to Houston Hobby).

Downtown Houston has great restaurants, and nightlife. the Galleria has great shopping, some wonderful restaurants, and the clubs and bars on Richmond are not very far, if that's what you're looking for. As long as you have transportation, you can't go wrong with either area. Sullivan's on Westheimer has great food, and the bar at Hotel Derek is a great way to start, or end an evening out. Both are in the Galleria area.

Respecting downtown Houston does have fine restaurants and clubs, I would argue Galleria has nicer restaurants, and is a safer playground for a girls group. Try for weekend rates or net savers at Intercontinental, Sheraton Suites, or if you don't mind a Hampton, the Hampton Galleria is a totally acceptable stay.

Thanks for the info all. The Galleria does look like a good spot for us, and the Hampton Inn is in the lower end of our price range. Any other dining info for Galleria or downtown is appreciated.

Trulucks; Houston's; high end: Cafe Annie; McCormick & Schmick's; There is an Italian restaurant right next to Morton's at the intersection of Post Oak & Westheimer that is very fine at reasonable prices; Galleria is dining central, the list is almost endless.
