Houseboat experiences???

I am investigating various houseboat excursions - one is on the Potomac River outside Washington DC - the other is on Lake Powell near the Grand Canyon. Anyone been on a houseboat trip? I would appreciate all tips good and bad. Thanks!

My brother and his wife vacation on a houseboat once a year on a lake in lower SC. I guess they like it so much that they do it every year. They invite all the family down, if they can make it. I have been several times in the past and it has always been lots of fun. We fish, sunbath, party and just enjoy ourselves. My brother also hauls down his speed boat for anyone who wants to do some fishing in a part of the lake that the house boat is not at, at that particular moment plus any other water activites. One year my sister got married on the houseboat. It was a wonderful wedding. My sister liked it so much that they come down from Maryland to do the houseboat once year. Now she is in Iowa and still plans to come down. I know I probably didn't answer all your questions, but maybe you can get an idea of how much we enjoyed using the houseboat.

We've been on Lake Powell a couple of times - last time about 5 years ago. It is a wonderful way to vacation - we had our 2 young twenties and another couple on the boat and had plenty of room. Wahweap Marina is where we rented the houseboat and tag-a-long (small motor boat) - something we highly recommend because there are so many places on the lake that the houseboat can't get into but which are a treat for the eyes. We would recommend Spring or early Fall - the crowds are gone - although you really don't run into lots of boats as the lake is so big - but mainly because it will be cooler - to us that is important. Wahweap makes it pretty easy to haul your groceries, etc. down to the boat from the parking lot with the loan of a big wheeled cart. We really feel you would enjoy Lake Powell and the great Southwest - when it gets cooler. Try your search engine to find out more - surely Lake Powell and/or Wahweap Marina will have a site. Enjoy - whatever you decide to do.

Hi! We rented a house boat on Lake Powell last September for 5 nights. It was incredible.. You won't believe the beauty and stillness there. Wahweap Marina is where we picked the boat up. The grocery store is expensive so shop before you get there. Make sure your boat is equipped with a two-way radio or Cell - Phone.-You can rent the phone there. Don't leave the dock without it. They have some wild storms that can come up. If you're interested in more info., feel free to e-mail me. The weather in Sept. was sunny, warm, and in the 80's. Melody

We had one of the best vacations we've ever had cruising on our house boat on Lake Shasta. During the summer the weather's good, the swimming's wonderful, the fishing's great, and birdwatching was spectacular. We even saw an ospray catch his lunch one time. We rented from Jones Valley and were really pleased with their services.

We rented a houseboat for three nights up in Voyageurs Nat'l Park in northern Minnesota. It was incredibly quiet and beautiful. One small mishap getting the line from the towboat tangled in the propeller. (The mosquitoes were also incredible and kept us inside at night!) I'd definitely do a similar trip again.
