I told my cousin I'd help him find a hotel near the Waikiki convention center. He doesn't want to spend an arm and a leg, but close enough to easily walk to. He had surgery on his foot and needs to take it easy. There are convention sessions at the Waikiki Hilton and Hilton Hawaiian Village also. Any recommendations for him?

Doubletree Alana is affiliated with the Hiltons I think, there might even be a shuttle to the Hilton. It's very close to the Convention Center. Aston Waikiki Parkside is a couple blocks away. Expedia.com seems to have some decent rates for Oahu.

The closest hotel is the Ala Moana -- across the street and down about 1/2 a block. I stay there about once a month and recommend it highly:

Yes, I was going to suggest the Ala Moana, too. Plus it is connected to the giant Ala Moana mall and its fabulous food court!

Parkside is closed for renovation and my husband who is involved in the project says it should open in Jan 2004.
