Hotel for one night in San Fransisco

My husband, two sons, and I will be spending a few days in the Pebble Beach area in March. We would like to spend one day and night in San Fransisco before flying home. We are hoping to find a hotel in the heart of the tourist area, within walking distance to a few of the popular sites. Does anyone have any suggestions? Thanks for your help.

The two best are the Mandarin Oriental and Ritz. The Ritz is a bit more of a walk to Market Street, etc. Both are pricey but if you're staying IN the Pebble Beach area that may not be a concern for you.
Four Seasons is opening in July, by the way, and will be SF's top property, with an ideal location right in the middle of everything.

Westin St Francis is on 335 Powell, part of the Union Square area. This area is within walking distance of great shopping, restaurants, and cable car line, that would take you to the Fisherman's Wharf area. Also within walking distance of the hotel(have the conciere assist you) is the Sony Metreon, San Francisco Museum of Modern Art, The Rooftop at Yerba Buena Gardens, and ZEUM. These areas form a square with a large park in the middle. Something for all ages, movies theaters, indoor ice rink, traditional and virtural reality bowling, shops, hands on activities-workshops, carousel, many choices for eating too.. May not be the traditional, but great place when you want to keep the kids happy.

Try the Prescott or the Vintage Court or the Handlery Union Square

Last summer my husband and 6-year-old daughter stayed at the Handlery Union Square - not a luxury place like the Prescott where I stayed several times while traveling alone on business. Love the Prescott and Postrio, their restaurant. But I chose the Handlery for this trip because they offer a suite for a reasonable price and they have a swimming pool - very important for my kid. And we had a good time.
