In S.F. we stayed at Petite Auberge, very romantic, rooms with fireplaces, suite with whirlpool, very cosy, breakfast buffet, cookies, chocolates, apples and spring water brought to your room. In the evenings, wine, coffee, tea, soft drinks and appetizers served. Sister hotel White Swan next door. One french atmosphere, the other British.
Last time in Tahoe we stayed at Embassey Suites. Close to casinos, offers breakfast buffet and cocktail hour. We stayed at Inn on the Lake in Winter in 92 and found service from housekeeping staff and in breakfast room quite rude, maybe things have changed, also pool was not very clean.
