We are planning our next holiday for this August,flying into San Francisco,then onto Monterey/Los Angelas/Las Vegas and then finishing up in San Diego,where's the thing's to do once we leave SF

How many days do you have for this trip and who is we? Couple, kids, etc. Many people spend at least two nights after San Francisco driving beautiful Highway 1, you can spend one night or two in Monterey, one in Cambria (romantic) or Pismo Beach (more for kids to do) and if you had a third night stay in Santa Barbara before reaching LA.

Advice will vary based on how much time is involved and whether it's an adult trip or a family with small children or a family with teens, etc.

Wait until mid-September you'll have a much better time, a much wider selection of affordable lodging choices, and balmy temps of only 99 instead of 112 in Las Vegas.

Sorry Jamie/Lizzie, it will be me and my wife,last time we dome SF was 2008,still see the White Swan and Petite Auberge are highly recomended. Will do first day SF then onto Monterey,Big Sur, Santa Babara onto LA and then meet up with our friends from Texas in Vegas,then finally finish at San Diego,car pick up just before we leave SF

Try to avoid car week (second week of August) on the Monterey Peninsula unless you want to see the cars. Accommodations are in very short supply and charge the highest rates of the year then.
