HELP, with lodging in Whitefish MT.

Arriving by Amtrak for one nite and want to stay in a nice place not too far from the station, but near park or maybe in the park.

We haven't been to Whitefish for quite a few years and we stayed at Crestwood Resort, on the way to Big Mountain, not close to town. So I have no suggestions other than to check out the Montana travel website at http://travel.mt.gov/ There is a wealth of info there and listings of accomodations for each town in Montana. Hope this helps. Val

mar -- this may be too late for you to read it, but.....if your reference to "the park" is glacier park, it is about a 45 minute drive or so from whitefish -- there is a train station and accomodations in west glacier, which is only a mile from the park boundary, if that would be more of what you had in mind.....gloria

My husband and I JUST returned from two days
(Wed & Thurs, June 10th & 11th) in Whitefish; we
stayed at the Quality Inn on the main drag only
one mile from the Amtrak station. We pre-arranged
a Budget rental car ($29.00/day, 150 "free" daily
miles) and Quality Inn charged us only $54.00 a day (includes tax) -- (I'm looking at the receipt as I
write); We drove the "Road to the Sun" road up
to Logan Pass and that's as far as we got because
the rest was closed (they were blasting some threatening overhanging snow drifts); manged to hike and saw some moose deer; careful about grizzlies -- you hike at your own risk; but I did see a bear at the road side and took pictures from our car; also saw mountain goats; call me at 217/687-2770 (evenings) or 1-800-872-2375, X7305 (days) if you have other questions or want to talk....Whitefish was well worth the stop; there's lots more we wanted to do, but didn't have the time; the people are friendly; also forgot to tell you that Quality Inn was great! it has both an indoor and outdoor pool AND an outdoor hot tub! Also continental breakfast; It was a great place to stay!
their phone number is 406/862-7600.

The Duck Inn is a lovely little bed and breakfast with about 8 rooms that overlooks the river. They have rooms with brass beds and deep tubs, a lovely great room and delicious breakfast. The owners were very friendly and helpful.
It is a short cab ride from the Amtrak station right in Whitefish. The rates are reasonable especially in the off season.
