Help with itinerary for Washington

We will be arriving in Portland and have 4 days to see Washington. Since, after the 4 days, we will meet some friends and then see Mt Ranier, Mt. St. Helens, Multnomah Falls, Mt. Hood, I'm trying to plan places other than those.
I am thinking of Rt. 8 to Rt. 101 from Olympia to Hoodsport to see the Olympic Peninsula. Is this as pretty as I've been told? 2 days to do it?
Know anything about Lake Crescent Lodge or Lake Quinault Lodge?
Is the scenic drive along Hoh river worth a detour?
What should we not miss in Seattle? We may not have a lot of time.
Should we make time to go to Vancouver Island?
We especially love scenic drives. But also want to see the city.
Any help and suggestions will be appreciated.

Loooots of threads that already dicuss this. Search! Rt 101- actually, just about anywhere on the olympic pen. is very scenic, absolutely gorgeous on a clear day. You might really enjoy Port Townsend. Vancouver Island- well, you should go SOMEWHERE on the ferry. I like San Juans, and Victoria best.

I don't think Hoh river is really worth the detour, you're kind of short on time.

About Seattle- what are you interested in??

Spend at least 2 days in the city! When in doubt- Pike's place market.

With only 4 days I don't think you have time to go to Vancouver Island or the San Juans.

2 days in Seattle and 2 days to see the Olympic Peninsula would take up all your time (and be a good intinerary imo).

I was thinking 2 nights in seattle, 1 on the Olympic, 1 day trip to one of the islands- but in hindsight, Suze is probably right. <shrug>

Thanks so much for your help.

We like getting the feel of the city. Is Seattle a "walking" city? Are there antique shops? We'll go to the fish market for sure. Are there places to walk from there?

Yes, but if you tire of walking the whole downtown area is a free bus zone. Lots of antique shops in Pioneer Square.

Wildmoose,

I'm happy to read you opinion that Hoh River is not a must-do on a short trip to ONP. Thank you.

Judy,

Lake Crescent Lodge has a beautiful setting, a good restaurant, and it is well situated for sightseeing in ONP.
