Help! Group of 12 adults NYC!

We're planning to travel to NYC some time around March or April 2008 (I know it's a long way off but I've been sent to start planning!) it's my mothers 40th, my grandmothers 60th and my sisters 21st all in the same year (the reason for the high number of us)

But looking into accommodation options and I'm stuck... the apartments I've looked at so far don't really appeal so not sure what our options are... the planning has kind of landed on my shoulders and I feel like I need to have a 'wow! this is great!' when we arrive... but at the same time we don't exactly have an unlimited pot of money...

I think they like the idea of staying in as few rooms as possible... but I don't know how practical that is... in theory we could get two 2 bedroom suites somewhere which sleep 6 in each... but we're talking 6 adults not a family... so I'm not too sure... but then paying for 6 hotel rooms seems like it will be very steep...

Any ideas??

give us a budget.
What do you want to spend in total on lodging?

Also interested in your budget. I think you have a couple of options -- try to rent an apt or two in the same building or try to get 2 or 3 suites. There are a number of all-suite hotels, including a Doubletree in Times Square, the Embassy Suites downtown (might not be a bad option-- comes with breakfast), the Kimberly (very lovely), etc.

Why? Budget or togetherness? It's a bad idea really b/c the fewer rooms, generally the fewer bathrooms and you'll waste lots of time waiting for people to get ready.

Another idea might be to take over an entire b & b. Here are a few nice ones to look at

Perhaps if you were to take 4-6 rooms, you could negotiate a good price.

How long do you plan on staying?

I've heard that the Affinia Gardens has a 3 bedroom 3 bath suite. If they had 2 of those, maybe that would work. I think you'd have to phone them. Affinia.com

Way too early to be worrying about it. Over the next year places will open/close, and rates will change.

Relax, research the city, and make specific plans in about 6-9 months.

New York is the most expesnive city in the contry. And if you're looking for a "wow - that's great" factor you will need to be ready to spend a good deal of money.

On the other hand there are many perfectly pleasant places that will not be a fortune.

I think you need to decide first on the number of rooms - and IMHO stuffing 6 adults in a suite is a bad idea. If it's all semi-related couples and adults I strongly reco separate rooms. This way you not only have your own bath - less wasted time getting ready - but each set of people can do they want.

(With a variety of ages and tastes you won;t all want to do the same things - and a couple of younger folks coming in from a club at 3am could be an issue with others if they've already been asleep for a couple of hours.)
