Gulf Shores Trip Report

On 6-12 my family and I took a one-week trip to Gulf Shores. The was the 5th time that I had been to the Gulf, and the 3rd time I had been to Gulf Shores. We left from Indianapolis, and stop at Cullman, Al. The drive from Indy to Cullman, down I-65 was not bad at all. My made relay good time. We stooped at a Super 8 motel. From the out side it looked a hole in the wall. It needed to be painted, the pool was broke. One the inside it was nice, even though we had no soap, and had to go up to the front desk and get some. The rooms were small but it was for only one night. It Motel did have a free breakfast. That night we ate at Backyard Burgers. IT was good. I had a bacon cheese burger and waffle fries. The Second part of the drive was not as fun. There is a construction zone between Birmingham and Montgomery. There was more traffic. We stayed at an beach house called Stars and Strips on High way 180. This was a very nice house. It was huge. bead room 5 ½ bath rooms. There was a pool. The entrance was hard to find, and both my Dad and Grandpa got stuck in the sand trying to find the entrance. Thank god for AAA. There were all grills to grill out too.

The Beach was quite. Since we were not in downtown Gulf shores, there were not as many people. There were not many shells, and the sand was uneven. We could see the dolphins relay well. They put on a show too. Fishing was also good. The biggest fish that we cough was about 14 inch long. We just left was chairs out on the beach over night, no one bother them. Over all the Beach was nice.

For are meals we ate the house. This was nice. IF we had gone out to eat, it would have taken longer, and we would have spent more money. There is a Wal-Mart at State road and 59, and state road 180. We went out to eat once. We went to Lambert’s which is in Foley. The place was fun. The portions were huge. I got the meat loft. There was this guy bringing rolls around, but he would through them, and you would have catch them. They are brought bowls of fried patios, black-eyed peas, and fried oprah around.

I did not do a lot of shopping. I did go to a Alvin Island, which is in downtown Gulf Shores. There is a mall on 59 by Lambert’s.

We did go to a candle light tour at Fort Morgan. This was fun. Fort Morgan is an old civil war fort. The tour was a reenactment of the day before the battle of the Mobile bay. At the end of the tour they shot off an old cannon, in honor of veterans. We also road the fiery to Dauphin Island. On the island there is another old civil war fort, named Fort Gaines. There is also a small park called Magnolia. It was more a walk through a jungle. If you are into history I would recommend going to both of these forts. We also made a quick stop at Gulf State Park to look for shells, but we had no luck.

Ride home took exactly 12 hours. It was not a bad ride. We stooped at the Ruby Tuesday in Athens, Al for lunch. I got the bacon cheeseburger. Over all this was a nice trip. IT was very refreshing. Being away from downtown Gulf shores, meant there not as many people, which was nice. The one thing you do not want to it drive through the sand, you will get stuck. LOL.

Yes, thanks for the report. Glad you enjoyed yourself! Did you stop at the Peach Park on 1-65 in Clanton? Great fresh grown fruit, pies, BBQ, frozen yogurt. I can't pass it up when I'm near by. Here is their website:

Great report! My BF and I will be down there within a month and REALLY love the idea of the beach house!

Currently we're looking at gulf shores hotels here http://bookit.com/us/alabama/gulf-shores/ but we're not sold on bookit.com at all and would LOVE some feedback from recent visitors and locals.

Thanks!

We are looking at a trip to GS next year & while I appreciate the info & report, please people... do a little proofreading!! I don't mean to be critical, but it was very hard to read. I'm not perfect & make mistakes, but I do proofread my stuff before I hit submit. I mean, here's what you had to eat at Lambert's: meat loft, fried patios and fried oprah!!! what the heck is that stuff???

You "stooped" at a Super 8 and then the beach house had a huge "beadroom"?? Typos are not hard to make, but a few minutes to proofread would sure help.
