GTG Boston-Cambridge July 12
I decided to stop off in Boston on the way to Europe this time, instead of my usual DC or NYC, and it occurred to me there are quite a few Fodorites living in the area and a GTG would be fun. DonTopaz and I had an offline discussion after I floated the idea on my planning thread and decided on the Sunday.
So, July 12th, at 6:00pm for drinks and dinner. Location TBD until we know how many people, but since I'm staying on Kendall Square I'd like it to be somewhere close to a red line station.
Please post here, or you can email me. I'm on gmail as mytimetotravel.

Golly gee, you've already got exact time and place in July? Only I wish I was fabulous but anyway we live Watertown (of shoot out fame) with easy journey via #71 bus into Cambridge.
DW and I should be on hand if in town.

I think I could go. Would be fun to meet you.
Maybe someplace in Central square, Cambridge would work. Its on the red line, and also has some not-too-expensive parking garages for us suburbanites (anyone besides me going to drive in?)
I'm thinking Central Kitchen, Green Street, Brick&Mortar, Mary Chungs... anybody local have a suggestion?

I may be able to go. I'd love to meet more Fodorites. I'm not a Cambridge expert (live on the other side of the river) but I've heard good things about Viale, the restaurant that replaced Rendezvous in Central Square. But anywhere is fine with me.

Another possibility - Summer Shack (casual seafood) in Cambridge at Alewife MBTA station. While some Fodorites have given this place mixed reviews, we have always had a good experience there (not so much at Boston location). There is a bar area, large parking lot, and across the street from Alewife red line MBTA station.

Gail, that's a good choice, actually. We've done group outings there a couple of times, and it's gone very well. For one thing, it's big enough that they don't mind people lingering and chatting. And I think the food is pretty good.

I'll be there!
I have a few places in mind -- a lot would depend on how many people would want to show up. I hadn't thought about the Summer Shack, but it is easy to reach either by car or public transportation.

Sorry for not responding earlier - I had computer problems and then started booking hotels for Europe...
I think I'm counting ten at this point, so we need somewhere of reasonable but not huge size. My hearing is not what it was, so noisy can be a problem, but I'd like somewhere that we can move around.
The Summer Shack main website says: Our restaurants can host private and semi-private functions from 20 to 350 people, each location varies in size and accommodations... So we wouldn't qualify for a private room at this point.
Anyone have a feel for whether we need reservations now, or can we wait until June?

Viale in Central Square. I live near there and plan to attend.
I just found out about this in the lounge. Bill mentioned it. I think you should post there. There's a new place in Harvard Square that replaced Casablanca. I'll try it tomorrow
